Gfo/carbon Brs Order

A FEW THINGS:

1. Which GFO should I get pellets or granules?

2. Will GFO work in a bag in the sump just as well as in a reactor?

3. Is anyone planning on buying a large amount and splitting it up? Or does anyone want to do that with me?

I have always used the granules before, but I ordered a small packet of the pellets to try for a while. I don't know which is best or what most folks use, they are about the same price so I'm trying something new for the experience.

At some point in the near future I would like to do a bulk order of gfo, but not sure yet which one I'm going to settle on

yes..as long as it's a high-flow area

i am buying the smallest bag of each. called andrew & he said on a 29, both will last about 3-4 weeks between changing media out & the 1lb bag will do about 4-5 changes....so that means the smallest bag of each should last 4-6 months

if you want to order a larger quantity & split it up, we can do that (i plan on ordering the large carbon since it says the small doesn't work well in a reactor...i'm ordering the single chamber reactor)

that sounds good thanks for the info, i figure if i dont need a reactor i could afford more product. what are the big advantages to the reactors? wondering if i should just go ahead and get one or if the benifit is worth it. didnt realize it would last that long, i probally don't need mass amounts if that is the case.

I would think granules would work better because of the larger surface area...

i personally think the reactor is the way to go. andrew told me the biggest difference in the singe & dual chamber is the dual is better for a bigger tank since you can run twice as much media & that the dual is easier to change just one media.

i figure i'll probably change both media at the same time, so the single chamber is a bit cheaper & will work just as good for my small 29

I got GFO pellets and the single chamber reactor in today. The reactor is impressive. It's nothing more than a DI can with an extra sponge, some tubing and fittings. But for the price, much, much nicer than the TLF phosban reactor. Highly recommended. The only downside is that it won't hang on the tank like the TLF, but it free stands just fine.

I also got pellet GFO in, the pellets are tiny, not a lot of difference between the pellets and granules IMHO. Hope this helps.
