gfo still good?

i have some gfo in a reactor with tank water thats been sitting there for months, i had it running only for a few days before taking it offline. Is it still good?

It probably can still remove phosphate but i would rinse it wellll before using it since I bet it smells really bad

lol, i thought it was gonna smell really bad, but surprisingly it smells pretty fresh

If the smell is okay, it's likely safeto use, although it might be coated with enough bacteria to make it ineffective at removing phosphate.
