GHA growing on chaeto

Hello all. I have no GHA inside of my display which is great. I finally won the battle there, however when I try to grow newly purchased chaeto in the sump GHA grows on the Chaeto, and kills it. I should say the GHA isn't actively killing it clearly, but preventing light from getting to the macro algae. I pull the GHA off of the chaeto, but it's a pointless battle as it continuously comes back on the chaeto.I run the light off cycle of the display so its on about 12-14 hours per day. I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas, or if they have experienced this before.

Put the GHA that you pull off into a different chamber of your sump and let it grow there. That will keep it both out of your tank and off of the chaeto. Or it should at least. I had the same issue and this is what I did. I'll let it grow in the sump just fine this does keep it out of my tank so far and this 40b I setup over 2 months ago. I had upgraded my old 20L to this 40b, I used all the same rocks and the old sand but I added 30 lbs of sand as well. Never an algae or diatom bloom

Cool idea, my sump is a tid small, but perhaps i could fashion some sort of acrylic divider. i will give this a go. thanks.

Let us know how it works out for you. Also make sure you pull most of the GHA out with your water changes but leave a little bit behind. I leave mostly what is stuck to the walls of the sump section that it's in and it's usually enough to keep it going. This is sort of like having an algae scrubber. Still from time to time I have to pull a small batch off of the chaeto but at lest now like I said I have no algae in my DT and I honestly think it's because I allow it to grow in the sump
