Hello.
Im thinking to buy a giesemann infinity 150w hqi with 4xt5.
I dont know the age of the lamp.

Is it some difference between a older giesemann infinity or a new?
Have it electric balast or magnetic? Some updates with å new or Its all the same?

Thanks for answers.

Raysis,

To bad you live in Norway. I am selling my Infinity right now. They are excellent fixtures. They were called the spectra when they first came out but the internals have all been the same. There is no way to tell the difference I am aware of. I dont recall the original name. Always been an electronic ballast and on the 150w its a quarter of the size of most ballasts.

Well I just did a check and it seems they gave the spectra a facelift and are still selling it! Looks exactly like an infinity with different covers on the ends. Im not sure if the ballasts are the same between the two models.

I have a 48" 250 watt Infinity that's about 1.5 - 2 yrs old. I love it & it has hqi ballasts-- not electric. You can here them when they first come on each day & it says hqi on the ballast, which are external. Good luck, they're beautiful fixtures.

Now I feel silly. I didnt really understand the difference between hqi and electronic until now after doing some reading. Yep they are hqi.

Hi, I can tell you the difference between HQI and Electronic Giesemann. I have the HQI ballast and what they have is the ignitor built into the hood, it is a rectangle box 2" by 1" by 1" and they are next to the MH bulb, just take the end pieces off and you can see it. Well, mine was sent into Giesemann people for repair and the ignitors are no longer available, so the fixture has to have new electronic ballast and then open the hood up and wire past the ignitors. I will be getting my Neptune back Tuesday and not sure if I want to do that, I can get a great deal by getting the new Infiniti with electronic ballast, they do not have the little ignitor in the hood. This has been a painful and expensive lesson for me.
