temp 78.9
nitrates 10
nitrites 0
ammonia 0
cal 500 i dose kalk threw my ato it keeps my ph stable
alk 11-12

i monitor salt , temp, ph, with an apex controller, AWESOME is all i have to say about the apex

i had a tank before this one. this is why i say this about this bulb. my tank before this one... the one in the aviator had t5's

i did change my carbon and gfo last week have not checked my phosphate in a while. so i don't have a recent reading on that.
did a water change monday cleaned the tank, wiped the tank down again yesterday and its sand is covered in the algae again.
i just ordered a new phoenix bulb to get me threw till i get a new ballast for the radium. will let you know if the algae stays or goes away, with the bulb change.

Not to lecture at all, but 12 hours is a very long time to run the halides each day imo. I think 8 is average among most people. I know people who have had successful sps tanks running them just 5-6 hours a day...

Edit - In regards to the proper ballast for a radium, Hamilton makes a M80 ballast that will drive them as the specs call for. Through their site it is $169 I believe.

is that a ballast that has fans? or does it run quiet? i don't want to get this thread way off track can you private message me?

I dunno. I just know you can't get brand new PFO's anymore, and this is the same spec's as that. If you see a radium on PFO it is crisp white with the slightest hint of blue. Not your typical "radium."

thanks, i just wrote hamilton for my answers. tried to private message but i need 10 posts. i guess since i haven't been posting in years my posts were dropped?

guess i better go get my checker out and check my phosphates, and see where they are.

That could do it.

Also as stated above, I would cut back those halides. I never run anything other than actinics for more than 10 hours. I would cut them back to 8 or so.

Perhaps you should start a thread in the reef discussion forum, as we have taken this well off topic here.

I asked how long the tank was up as I see no coralline on the rocks. Thats a pretty good sign that things aren't in balance, imo.
