Gig lighting help

I have a well established 46g bowfront reef. (36" length 19" from sand bed to light fixture) Over it I have a 48" 6 lamp T5 light. 3-10k and 3- actinic lamps. Is this enough light for a Gig? I do have a 250w MH but I prefer not to use it if possible. I'm in an upper apt that is hot enough already and its only April. I have had Both Gigs and mags before but always under MHs and in a 125g tank. Both had to be sold when I moved 2200 miles.

LA has a few gigs available...."tans" small- and I was wanting to order one.

and YES I have Cipro on hand and a 20g High QT tank already partioned with egg crate for the treatment if needed.

Thanks for any feedback :)

Yes, that should be enough. Why 3 actinic lamps?

Ohh, I saw you have MJ1200's. I changed mine out for Eheim compact 1000's. The noise difference is amazing.

What are you using the MJ's for?

Thank you. There are 3 actinics because that is what the fixture came with. I also like the look of the corals with them. I have the MJ's in there for extra flow. I had them on the tank long before I added the seaswirl and figured the more flow the better :)

Ok, I thought maybe you had them on your reactors for feed pumps like I did. Err they were loud.

Anyway, check out the jebao pumps, you could do the wp10's or wp25's and ramp the voltage down. Get the new twin controller, it's awesome! These pumps will blow ur mind for the price. Although cheaply made, they are well worth it IMO. The wave and flow they create is unreal. Check them out a fishstreet.com

They are as good or better than Vortechs but for 75% less!

YouTube them. Even if they break or quit, very cheap to replace!

I recommend upgrading to ATI bulbs and loose all those actinics. They are very low on PAR. Get yourself some Blue Plus bulbs if you like the blue look and they have very high par for blue bulbs

That's what I run...ATI 54W, BLUE PLUS, PURPLE PLUS, CORAL PLUS..

start with a small one...46bow is not a very big tank, i had one a few years ago. if i had my current gig in that tank it wouldnt fit very well...they get very big

Thank you. I will order the new lamps today. I also received a small gig from LA...though it doesn't look like a gig to me. I do have a 125g tank in storage. I just have to convince the landlord to let me set it up. I have 50k renters insurance....she is still not convinced lol.

I have cipro and a 38g Tall tank for QT. I posted a thread with pics of the gig here too.
