gig location question

anyone know if they have a preference to be able to unfold and rest on rocks or on the sand when open? i had mine surrounded by rocks for a long time and it would open up and fold over the rocks...sometimes it would stretch up fully toward the lights...this weekend i made some rockwork changes after getting two fish out and now it rests mostly on the sand other than the base rock its foot is anchored to. it seems fine, it opens up fully, i'm just curious if anyone did any comparisons over the years..

My purple has been in the same spot since he got here only climbing upward a little throughout the time, but his foot is about 6" into rock, column extending out, and basically facing flat toward the lights.. At night, he retracts a bit and he's flush with the cave his foot is in.

Our green on the other hand is on the bottom, partially attached to a rock island, partially to the glass and pedal is half on the sand and half on the rock.

They're all different, but curious to see the responses.

Mine don't seem to be very picky in terms of substrate. Wow -- I've actually had six now:

1. Purple - stayed on the top of a flat rock, positioned up towards the light
2. Purple - started at the bottom of the tank near the substrate, then moved up onto a rock, foot buried in a crevice
3. Tan/mauve - started on rock for over tow eyars, then started moving down towards the substrate when I introduced the purple one
4. Green - is now on the side of a rock facing sideways
5. Blue - in barebottom QT but hasn't attached to the bottom of the tank
6. Purple - replaced the cut purple that recently died, is in the same location as the previous purple one but its foot is not in the crevice.

In terms of resting on the rocks, they don't seem to care. I've had a couple where if a rock was behind it, they would just bend up onto the rocks. Others in the same type of location end up getting folds.

I can tell you that they change shape constantly. My tan/mauve one also extended its foot, raising its oral disc so it almost looked like a toadstool coral.

Cool stuff. Oddly, my tan/green is also on the side of a rock, half of it is in the water column and half on the sand.
The shape shifting is bizarre for sure, I stand there sometimes and just watch it. From flat and round to folded like a flower, I've seen it ball up like a mag , raise up so much that the column becomes 12" talk before it opens...wild stuff
