gig vs haddoni?

I'm going to take a stab at my first carpet anemone with a pair of clarkiis in my 125G tank. I noticed a lot of threads here where people were trying to identify whether their nem was a gig or a haddoni. Does it matter? What are the differences that I might care about?

Haddoni are sand dwelling anemone, they like deep sand and attach to the bottom of the tank. They also like low flow, if the flow is lifting their pedal disc off the sand the flow is too high. Gigs like high light and flow, they are more rock dwelling, some will sit at the rock sand interface. Gigs are also poor shippers and require antibacterial treatment more than haddoni. Both are able to eat fish, I find haddoni do so more than gigs. The good thing about clarkii is the will be hosted by all available hosting anemone in the aquarium trade. Both gig and haddoni do get large so make sure you have room in the tank.

The requirement of the two species are completely different. Need to search on what you need before you get one please. Gigantea is possibly the hardest anemone to keep

Haddoni is plenty hard...

if you have a sandbed and is starting to keep anemone, try the Hadoni first as it is easier to keep than the gigantea.

Haddoni likes less flow, alot less, too much flow they will keep moving.

Gigantea likes more flow, they are MUCH harder to keep alive initially.

there is a sticky link above the Anemone/Clownfish main forum that you can read through to educate yourself about treatment. also there are ALOT of documented health ID and treatment on here that you can read through, very informative stuffs. Folks went through them all and left alot of pictures and all the info you will ever need. trust me there is no short cut, dont skip the reading first. Folks like you are blessed because there are people who went through this road before you and they had nothing to start with, new comers can now rely on the information readily available to them.

Not to worry, guys. I've been doing a lot of reading - just started this thread to see if there was anything that I was missing, or mis-reading. I've pretty much read every sticky thread in this forum. Was just looking for anything additional. Thanks for the info
