Gig vs Mag

Is a Gigantea harder to obtain and get into a healthy state in comparison to a Magnifica? I'm doing great with a Mag and Haddoni, was thinking about adding a Gig in the future.

Seems like, both LA and DD the Gigantea statistics lately haven't been good at all.

Mags seam to respond better to treatment than gigs here lately. I wouldnt recommend a gig from either LA or DD right now as most threads I've saw have not been very good. Both when healthy and acclimated seam to do well in a established tank.

I've lost a haddoni and gig from DD recently.

I have ordered 3 gigs total from LA.
One was so small it was ridiculous. It didn't survive a week.
I've also ordered a medium and large.
The medium is doing ok. I'm on week 8 or so.
The large made it about 4 weeks.

I also have a magnifica from LA.
It's about 8 weeks and is doing pretty well.

But it has totally deflated the last 2 days... not sure if it was the skunk clowns harassing it, or the tank change...

I've moved it away from the skunks for now.

DD treats all mags, haddoni, gigantea... no one that i've heard from has had very good luck the last few months.
I'd be weary.
They show to have a nice mag in stock right now..
But I wouldn't risk buying it.

The combination of never being in stock when I have the time to receive and treat along with the fact they aren't arriving in the best shape for anyone isn't inspiring.

I'd be willing to drive a couple hours to get one healthy in stock, but that's relatively rare also. It'd be great if LA did local pickup as an option.

Gigs are rare, but if you look hard enough you'd find some gigs for sale in Cali I'm sure as I have a friend whose picked up 2 or 3 in the LA area(He's willing to travel a few hours as well so I don't know how far he went to get them) very recent. Having time to find them and being able to treat after is another story :P Good luck, buy local if you want the best chance of survival.

Common colored mags are common in northern and southern CA. I just saw one today. A nicely colored one is rare. Gigs can be found from time to time, but the blue and green ones are very rare. Purple seems to be the most common of the brightly colored ones. Brown and tan gigs are more common now, but I'd still consider them rare. All of the gigs I've seen lately are in bad shape and none are responding to antibiotic treatment.

I like gigs because of how they look, but if I were to choose between the two in terms of getting it past the acclimation period, I would choose a mag every single time.

Where in Southern Cali do you recommend? I'm not in a rush, but love to check out some stores when traveling through.
