Gigantea vs. Hardoni Carpet

How can I tell the difference between these two? I understand one is harder to keep than the other but I don't see any difference between the two.

Gigs ( most of the time ) will have spots/bumps on the underside of the oral disc. (( it starts with a "v", something like verncule )). Gigs will also have longer tentacles.

Here is Sugartooth's blue gigs,

Thanks Reefing!

So, since the last picture...I think the tentacle density has pretty much stayed the same but the color has darkened. I think that is encouraging.

And then my Haddoni,

Look for the purple spots at the very top of the underside. It is wicked hard to find a healthy one with any chance of surviving though. Gaps between the tentacles and a mushy appearance, sometimes not attaching the foot are all bad signs. Nick, if a nice one comes into an LFS you'll have to fight me for it, and you wouldn't take an anemone from a pregnant lady, would you? :p

Now that is just plain mean (( smart, but mean )) ;)

My husband was watching a commercial where a woman wakes up to a diamond necklace. I told him I would rather wake up to a gigantea. He said he would feel bad dropping that on my face while I was sleeping. AAAARRGG, get it off, get it off...

Now, that would be funny. At least for everyone, but you.

I am really thinking about trying a Gig one day, but the difficulties in finding a healthy one, and my love of Haddonis always seems to get in the way.

Fight a pregnant lady? of course not. :D

I saw what appears to be a blue footed green carpet at Jay's but I wasn't sure if it's a gigantea or a haddoni. The tentacles are longer than the haddoni so I asked to check the underside but can't seem to find any purple spot. It's a gorgeous piece though. The blue is almost unreal!
Most of the haddoni I've seen have small bubbly tentacles that looks like a ricordia yuma type bubble. But the blue footed green carpet I saw at Jay's, the tentacles were at least 1/5" or longer. Looks pretty much like Sugartooth's gigantea in the picture above.

Have you seen this piece yet Cindy?

did you buy it?? Jay said it had been sold to a person suspiciously fitting your description. You better post pictures :)

After reviewing the pictures and taking several close look at the anemone. I'm almost 99.9% sure that this is a gigantea. The reason why the purple spots are not as apparent is because the anemone is not fully expand. And the blue foot just make the purple harder to see.

The clowns took it really quick. And they're liking it!

You did beat me to Jay's.

Try a flash photo in a dark tank to show the dots. I really hope it pulls through for you ( and then years later you decide to travel the country as a professional skeet shooter and sell it to me) Heavy flow might help open it up a bit but I wouldn't try feeding it until it looks really good consistently.

Sorry Cindy, I was a little too quick. After all the RBTA have been removed from my tank, the clowns seem lost and at night, it was very depressing watching them swimming and rubbing against the glass at the top of the tank.

And I agree on the advice of not feeding the anemone while it is acclimating to the new tank. I really hope that it will thrive as well.
I've never seen anything that is this blue! It's almost unnatural.

The blue/purple spots are called verracue I believe.

I can't really help with an id, but good luck with the anemone. It sure is a beauty.
