I have a sick osc. clown, but just am not sure exactly what's going in--perhaps gill flukes? He/she is in a 16g nano along with a 2nd osc. clown pair (still juveniles, I've had them ~8 months) and an orchid dottyback. They did great for many months. Tank is filtered an aerated by a HOB Aquaclear 30 gallon filter.
One of them has been doing the following: Seems to be struggling for air at times; at times is scratching the gill area on rocks; and at times sits on the bottom or hovers against the glass, and when it's bad, he does angle a bit sideways. No visible signs of parasites, though.
I've been hestitant to extract and treat him because he's been this way a few weeks, but it doesn't seem to be progressing, and: Appetite is still good; these problems are only at times; at other times he's swimming around with his buddy; and I don't know exactly what this is. I am NOT seeing ick or signs of any external parasites.
Tank parameters have remained stable (salinity, temp, pH, alk, nitrates, nitrite, ammonia) with no swings, and nothing is in a problem range. I'm doing 2 gallon water changes biweekly. The other osc. clown and the dottyback are showing no problems or symptoms.
1) Would a freshwater dip be indicated, and if so, can someone direct me to a relevant link for instructions?
Thanks, DL
