Gimmito's 450 L-Shaped Display

very nice Jim!

i had a trio of those, but my Zebra male took out the mask male. They are one of my favorite fish in my tank.

Sup Ed,

I remember you had a trio. Rough deal with the zebra male taking out the mask. Competion for the ladies is fierce!

Lol , yea. The zebra rule the tank. It also harass the watanabe male and belus male. I want to get mask male for my 90 fish only.

I'm looking forward to seeing how those Rapid fixtures work out for you. I've been looking at them for a while now. They seem like excellent fixtures for the price.

They are a good value and solid. I do like the optional controller to dial in the color you want also. It does the job I wanted of lighting up the back of the tank without using halide again (which would have been overkill for what I'm keeping there).

Cleaner wrasses can't help with ich as it is under the skin. It's good to know you are having success with the Dr. G's products.

Hi Dave,

I agree the ich parasite is typically found under the skin, but there is a short period where the parasite is suspectable when burrowing into the fish. That being said, I don't believe cleaner wrasses can cure ich, but rather help the fish feel more at ease. The treatment of meds such a chloroquine phosphate will aid in curing ich.

I've dosed carbon (vodka/vinegar) for a while now with varied success to keep nitrates in check. Based on some friends in the hobby recommendations, I thought I'd try a H&S sulfur denitrator to help control nitrates. I'm starting off at a drip per second and will adjust accordingly. I'll report periodically how it goes.

Hi Jim,

i'm running the H&S sulfur denitrator for a while now...nice piece of hardware :-)
Works great with my tank.

happy reefing

Hi Bjorn,

Thanks for the reply. I'm a big H&S fan (all my skimmers are H&S). May I ask how long were you running the denitrator before noticing a significant drop in nitrates? Also how many drips per second are you running?

Thanks,

Jim

Hi Jim,

You have to check no2 of the reactors output water while it is breaking in. (not no3). As far as I remember it took like 2 weeks. So when nitrites are zero the reactor is ready to go and starts reducing nitrate. So until the nitrite of the output water is zero i put it on 2 to 3 drops per second. After that I tuned it up to like 10 drops per second and checked nitrate after another week. After three weeks I had that significant drop in no3.
You can find some contradictory stories about how long it will take. I think it depends on the media type (in my case it came with the reactor) and the amount of no3 in the water.

yours
Bjorn
