I live in Urbandale. The last time I was at the Dells we rented a timeshare condo on the golfcourse at Christmas Mountain. During the summer you used to be able to get some great deals since it is mostly known as a ski resort. Was actually cheaper than a hotel and we got a jacuzzi, big screened porch with jennair grill, kitchen stocked with dishes, pans; all linens; and firewood for the fireplace. It gave us access to something like 4 pools plus all the hotel facilities (including golf) on-site too. I booked it because back then they had riding stables. If anyone is planning to stay in/near the Dells for more than a day it is the way to go.
