This will be a DIY meeting, consisting of maxi-mods, acrylic tank viewers, and possibly a few other small projects. Along with this meeting there will be several raffle items and should give us a chance to get reaquainted.

The meeting will be held in

City: Iowa City

Date: March 17th

Location: Iowa City Public Library Meeting Room B

Time: This meeting will start at NOON

A link to directions, for those who don't know where the library is:

Also, parking is not the best in downtown Iowa City, but there are a couple parking ramps about a block from the library that should have spots and are not too expensive............ there's on street parking as well, if you're lucky enough to find it ;)

I'll buy all the parts at the Lowes in Des Moines here and precut everything that I can. I think I can get all the parts off that thread.

Covey,
Did you add the second stage that the guy added onto the reactor later on in the thread?

I don't want to sound like a dummy, but what is a maxi mod?

it is taking a Maxi Jet powerhead and changing the impeller and shroud to increase the water flow it produces. it makes it kind of like a Tunze powerhead

Here you go. It's a Maxi Jet 900 GIRS style! :D Instead of pushing the normal 230 gph it's now pushing probably 1800!

Here's a pic of what the prop looks like after you're done hacking the old one up and regluing the boat prop to it.

So is the club going to provide some matierials to purchase or what's exactly going on?

Just curious if I need to bring anything or what cause I wouldn't mind having a MJ Mod. Just wondered if any of the distributors online would give a bulk discount or not but it seems kinda late for that now :>

See everyone on Saturday, hopefully if no crisis' rises.

mj-mods does do group buys but you need to buy atleast 10 and you only save a dollar or 2 per mod.

I am going to be ordering some later today. Let em know if you want one. I have a thread going.

I'd really be interested in making one of those DIY calcium reactors at some point. I don't have any SPS and very little LPS, so it would be kind of pointless, but eventually (assuming my new stand/canopy ever gets finished) I hope to have a lot of that stuff.

How much does it cost to rent/fill a CO2 bottle?

DIY Calcium Reactor: $130
CO2 Regulator w/solenoid $80 + $?? Bottle Rental

That's pretty cheap considering I can use my ACJR to control it.

Maybe we can get some people to take step by step pictures of the different do it yourself projects so we can post it to our new website. I think I'll give it a try for the calcium reactor.

I would have to go look at the paper work but I remember the deposit was steep. I got the 5# co2 tank at AirGas I remember the refills are $14 and it has lasted me over 7 months now( It is close to done). I have 30 some SPS frag and a few small colonies so I have a decent demand.

If either of you guys want to build one go check to see if your local Lowe's have the whole house filter in stock. The rest of the parts are pretty basic PVC plumbing parts.
Here is the filter

According to the Lowes website, they are in stock in both Cedar Rapids and Iowa City, but who knows how accurate that really is.

Is there a list somewhere of all the PVC parts that are needed?

BTW, I haven't had much luck with the QuiteOne pumps... My 4000 is terrible about restarting after it's stopped and I know that it's a common problem.

I wouldn't buy a rio if rio paided me twice the cost of the pump. Rio's have always seemed to be a nice looking pump....til you plug them in.

Hmmm, We use a Rio 3100 at the office and from what I can tell it pumps WAY more than my unreliable QuietOne 4000 which is rated at about 200gph more.
