Look guys, what this all boils down to is you want to have a say from your area, right?

Get on the committee, if we get a several people from one area, we can put someone in charge, or you can pick, a chairperson. That chairperson could then be put in a board spot.

It is not the intent to push anyone out, but if you want to have local events, the BOD cant do it all for you. Get a local group together, maybe just 2 or 3 people. That way you can work on some local events, while the BOD works on the big stuff.

Chairperson is the same as a Trustee... Not re-inventing the wheel just renaming it.

LOL Travis Travis Travis.......I tried convincing Mitch to come in Feb.....he didn't see it that way. We'll get it worked out as soon as we can and get it posted

Yes, it is.

If we could all learn not to get so hot headed, these things wouldnt happen. I can hardly keep up with a thread like this to get anything said. Lets just take a breather.

Just trying to help... :p

I really do believe the calendar was the missing link for the last two years. Get a calendar and assign people to be incharge of each event. Get those people now and if something won't work you have time to fix it. Previously we planned one meeting at a time and one person always tried to do it all. Burnt out people are not happy people.

BTW no hard feelings Jason

We had to get the traditional crap throwing out of the way......happens every year.....this year I hope we can throw it at the monkeys and not ourselves

So, why mess with it? In your other post you say, "if there are more than one"... Hard to have a committee of one isn't it? :D I still think you need to leave the structure alone and add the event committee you guys came up with. Make an event committee for each event and make the area trustee responsible to report their progress to the Executive Committee. Keeps everyone on track and in the loop. Your only job should be coordinating the Execs and the Trustees Allen. President is all about deligation.

Aside from a few posts, we had a good discussion. I hope we all learn from it. I hope others read the posts (in their entirity before posting a comment) and learn from them as well.

It is very healthy to discuss the clubs issues here. If we don't you will see the friction in the future at meeting and events, and as a group we will not suceed in our goal of supporting this hobby.

like tee ball, we're all winners here.

On a more serious note, could someone tell me what they are and where I can buy those black squiggly hoses that looks like a bunch of ball sockets attached to each other?

Hmmm I think we have a thread discussing that very topic.... If I remember correctly, Ryan was the foremost expert on that topic by the end of the thread....;)

I still find it funny that people think the last year has been a failure for the club.. I completely disagree. We had 2 Great speakers. Omaha zoo tour.. Alot of new members and 2 great frag auctions?? so what was the failure?

Wow....How did I miss this? I don't know where to begin. Here are just a few random thoughts I got while reading all this:

The lack of participation from the BOD did not bother me at all. It was apparent early on who was going to participate and who was not. It was not a big deal to me if they did not participate. Peoples interest change. Deal with it. The club is all the members...not just the BOD. I think we dealt with it pretty good. As far as the participation...we really did not have many candidates at the time of election last year. I feel that some of the people on the BOD were placed there because they were at the meeting that month. That is not the case for this new BOD.

Every member takes from the club what they want. Some want to be at every meeting and participate in every event we have. Others just want to come to a frag auction once a year to get some great deals on some heathy local corals. Either way 20 bucks is pretty cheap admission even if you only buy one coral and gain even a speck of information at an event. So I really do feel that all members got their moneys worth if they were able to make it to even a single meeting.

I do agree...some areas are stronger than others. That is they way it is going to be not matter what. What I don't like to see is people saying publicly that the club has had 2 bad years. That is completely an opinion and deters others from wanting to join for the knowledge that is available through this great group of people.

I personally do not like structured meetings and BOD's and stuff like that. Heck, it was just a few months ago I found out that we even have by-laws. But I do understand why we need it. I like the process of asking the club members what they like to do/see and then take it from there. For the good of the members!

As always, I look forward to another year as a GIRS member. Without this club and forum I would not be where I am at in my reefkeeping today.
