GIRS Website ideas

Bullet

New member
Hi everyone,

I am working on getting the website updated and adding some more bling bling to it. If you have any ideas or suggestions post them here and I will see what I can do!

Thanks!
Bob

How about just keeping the basics updated. One example is what stores offer discounts to GIRS members and what do the discounts consist of. What about pictures that were taken at the Paletta meeting and other events? The website is pretty stale currently.

It is stale...I agree. That is why I am going to try and get things going again.

I will work on the Discounts and stuff. I acctually forgot about those from the first go around!

Check back soon and there will be pictures from all the tank tours, Omaha tour and others.

We can do it...it just takes time andsome imagination.

I think we need some pics from IMAC. Some pics of Dan might be good on the front page. :D

Will do!

If anyone has any pictures of Paletta and Scott Michael please e-mail them to me so that I can get them posted on our website!

I have all the ones from previous threads of the Omaha zoo trip and the tank tours.

I emailed some palletta pics to both pygmey and xlracer a few months ago. I can email them to you tonight if you need them as well.

Smart a**!

It is unfortunate that the plan all along was for someone else to lay out the web page and then have this individual claim it as his own. Based on the email below, I am giving you notice Bob, that GIRS is to cease using the design and template that my wife's company purchased. This was discussed with Eric within a response from your message to me. At this time, you are to cease using the webpage that I designed, your new found designer must create a site of his own doing.

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you... Bob mentioned that he
knew this guy that could help with the site.. All that meant was that it is
alot of burden for one person to try and keep it updated. I know I tried.. At
least you crated the site you get to work on :) The one I tried to fix was
made in Microsoft Word..

Anyway.. I love what you have done for the site and I see why it would have
ticked you off by that email. Rest assured I want you managing that site and I
really do aprpeciate all the time you put in. I still have not heard what
resturant you want to have a gift certificate from :)

If you want to talk about this one the phone just give me your number and I
would be happy to talk to you..

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Eric

Eric -

I have given this a lot of thought throughout the afternoon and thought I
was not going to let this bother me. But, it has. Basically, I feel quite
offended and that the time and effort I donated to accomplish this for the
club has been in vain.

Were you aware that Bob was pursuing this, and had he discussed this with
you?

If you were not pleased with the work that I had done, all anyone needed to
do was let me know which direction the club wanted the site to go.

At this point, I feel my efforts are not appreciated. I believe the best
course of action is to take down the site I have created and place the
previous site online. Furthermore, I do not give permission to Greater Iowa
Reef Society to use the site that I created nor the template that my wife's
company purchased. Any new site creation is the responsibility of Bob's
friend. If he is a designer, he should be fully up to speed on copyright
laws and how they affect another party's products.

I apologize that I could not fulfill the needs of the club.

Chris

Plan?

Plan?

There never was a plan like that.. It is hard for one individual that is not getting paid any money to constantly update a site. I know I have tried doing it. It just is not easy with all the changes that people want. So having more than one person do the site only helps the club. It is not a slam or anything toward anyone.

I am sorry it has come to this but if you feel it necessary we will nto use your design. You have already stripped it from the site. I think what you created was great and it was nice to have people step up and want to help update the site. Nothing against you at all. I cannot tell you how much of a pain in my butt it was when I would get lists and lists of changes and no time to do them..

So respond to this thread and if you want it taken down we will bust our butt tonight to build a new one.

Also everyone please post ideas to help everyone that is working on the site design it to the clubs needs..

I liked the site pretty much. I would just like to be able to log in as a member & add my own pics when I wanted.

Chris,

This is no way was the plan all along! Everyone loved what you did for use and I don't know how many times we said how much we appreciated it! I don't want to repeat what Eric just said, but I just wanted another person to help out on updating the site and and some additional personal effects. I don't know anything about copyrighting but the bottom of all the pages said "Property of the Greater Iowa Reef Society".

To everyone in the club...we are working on a new one as I type. The old format was great and that is what we are pretty much going to use. It is a basic template from Dreamweaver. If there is something that you want to see changed please post it!

Chris. I am sorry for all the misunderstandings here!

Bob

Well, I would believe there was such a plan. Bob's friend would not commit to creating a site. I stop receiving updates, then learn that the site has been modified by Bob's friend and this individual's logos are on the site claiming ownership for the web design. I think 1+1=2 here, not too far of a stretch. You are correct, you are on your own here. I do wish for my design to stay off line and your new designer can create one of his own designs.

Hey Chris,

I was talking to Eric the other day about our website and stuff. I just wanted to let you know that I think you are doing and have done a GREAT JOB on our website! I hope that I did not offend you by asking you if John (my friend) could take a look at it and add/change stuff. If I did I am truly sorry and that was not my intent. John is a single guy that loves to mess around with this type of stuff but would not commit to doing the whole site for us like you did. We all have jobs and I know that this can be tedious work. I figured that if we had a few people that can do it would be easier for everyone. But it is your design and if you do not want anyone messing with it I completely understand.

Again, I think what you have done and are doing is great! Everyone in the club thinks so too. This last meeting was the first one I can remember where nobody asked about the website and when it would be updated. That is all thanks to you.

Give me a call sometime and we can talk about it.

Bob
