Glass Cages Tanks

If you got 8 years out of a 240 gallon you paid $879 for, I'd say it was definitely worth it.

Hardly. Because you are paying that money to then stick how many hundreds and thousands more worth of coral and fish inside it? So if it were to fail and you lose everything, would it really be a consolation? "oh well, at least I didn't spend much on the tank" nope.

Car and aquarium market are comparable in some ways. On the one hand you have mass produced cars, GM, Ford, Toyota etc. Many are well made, will last as long as you need them to, and serve their purpose, and are cheaper. They also are not the best quality, and may be recalled more often for problems. The higher end hand made Ferraris and and Lambos, cost a ton more, much better craftsmanship, and won't be recalled that often for issues. We hear more often about failures from GC or Marineland, or Ford and GM, because there are more of them out there. But they are mass produced, thus cheaper, and of lesser quality. Putting a couple hundred gallons of water in your house, I'd trust that to a higher end tank, thats a lot of damage if the tank fails.
