Glass cutters in Rochester?

We finally decided to do it right and go with a sump for our 40B build. Probably going to use a 20L.

Anyone have recommendations for places to get glass cut for baffles in Rochester? What do places charge to cut glass, anyway?

I've got some plate glass at home that might work, but still need to dig it out and figure out if it's tempered. (it was cabinet doors from one of those put-it-together-yourself things).

Thanks!
Mat

Hey Mat,
Not for nothing but Lowes or Depot may cut it... If not Flower City Glass does I believe.. I know they can do pretty much anything with glass.

Hope this helps,
John

Yeah, thought about them, but then forgot about it! Doh! :)

Actually, was kindof hoping to get the edges polished (so as to not slice off a finger) and I'm not sure if Lowes can do that.

Plus, was hoping (assuming the glass I've got at home is not suitable) I might be able to score some cheap glass off of a dedicated shop who might have some scrap laying around...

Thanks for the suggestion, tho. I'll check out Lowes, especially since I've gotta stop there tomorrow anyhow for some other stuff!

If Lowes doesn't work out, I recommend Glass Fab Inc. in the city. I had glass tiles I needed specially cut when I was remodeling the bathroom, they didn't even charge me. Might be worth a shot

Lowes doesn't do anything over 1/8" I went to Flower City Glass for 1/4"

Ah, that's what I was thinking, but hadn't gotten a chance to check yet. Thanks for the recommendation!

Remember what it cost, roughly? I don't have the tank yet so I don't have exact dimensions, otherwise I'd call them for a quote.

I do not remember from memory but look it up when I get home. Don't bother paying for any kind of edge treatment if it's for something like a sump they remove sharp edges by default, at least they did for my order.

Sorry but I think you will need to contact Flower City Glass for quote, they have an online form which I used. My receipt lists cost as $5.47 per unit but I think they must stock standard sizes that they cut from because I was charged for 13 units but the sizes I bought didn't add up to 13 square feet

Will do. Thanks for the info!

Have you considered cutting it yourself? You can purchase the proper tool from Lowes or HD for $5 or so. There are many youtube videos that show how to do it. I cut my own baffles out of glass aquarium tops and it was very easy.

Gotta admit I didn't give it much thought, since I hadn't seen much mention of it before. Duh!! :headwally: Now that I've googled it, it seems like the way to go. Thanks!
