Glass or acrylic????

Well I just bought a house and now is my time to upgrade to a bigger tank. I have a spot picked out in the new house that is 48 x 24 inches. So I'm looking at either a 75 or 90 gallon. What are the advantages or disadvatages of glass or acrylic in those sizes?

acrylic scratches more easily but is much lighter and easier to drill and customize,ie overflow boxes etc, if you go acylic TRU view is a good brand

I am a big fan of starphire glass. Its low iron so its crystal clear. Very hard to scratch. Easy to clean cause you can use razor blades. I have had both acrylic and starphire I starphire glass hands down is better in my opinion.

That's what I'm leaning towards is glass. Cesars has a 75 and stand for 299. Seems like a good deal to me. Also I'm kinda doing this on a budget so all my equipment is set for my 29. Would I be able to use this on the 75 as long as I don't increase the bio-load? And will I see a cycle from changing over?

I love the look of glass much better and it is way easier to clean. I have a 150 gallon glass and 15o gallon reef tru vu. The Truvu is 10 months old and yes has scratches but if I had to do it over again I would get glass.

And as far as brands. I would get Envisions over tru vu any day. Had I known he was based in Portland! Much higher quality acrylic! Very nice quality.

Well looks like glass. Any ideas on the equipment. I'm pretty sure its gonna be ok. Don't laugh but what I'd be using would be a penquin 350 bio filter which just holds a little carbon. And a seaclone protein skimmer. The stuff has worked fine for all my corals even sps. I just won't add any fish till I get a better skimmer. Also what size heater would you recommend?

glass ,glass ,glass ! you may like acrylic in the beginning but as soon as you scratch it boy o boy will you be mad . they just scratch way to easily and its just not worth the weight savings IMO .also a 75 or 90 gallon tank is so cheap because they are very common you just cant beat it for the price . i would go with the 90 as i just replaced one of my 75s with a 90 and i already wish that i did it years ago .in many cases the star fire glass is overrated unless you have a very large tank IMO .
happy reefing !
