Glass or screen lid?

I thought I read in a forum here that reef tanks should have screen lids instead of the glass lid that came with my aquarium. Is that true? My tank has and LED light that hangs about 5 inches from the top of the tank. Not a whole lot of heat given off. I built a canopy to fit on top of the tank. Should I put any lid on at all?

I think you'll find that most hobbyists don't have any sort of cover on their tank at all, but the screen tops are pretty popular when it comes down to keeping the fish from abandoning ship so to say. (jumpers) Glass tops can trap Carbon Dioxide which will have an impact on your pH.

I had glass till I changed my light to led.
I then found a dried up clown fish in the morning.
Build some screen lids right after that.

I intend to get an acrylic lid for my new tank - what are the disadvantages of having a lid on a tank? Have had one on my current tank...curious to know your thoughts?

Disadvantages: Gas exchange, heat issues, and light penetration.
