Glass thickness?

I am getting a tank made and wonder if 12mm glass will be ok for this size.

37" long
28" wide
33" deep

if your questioning it, go thicker. last thing you want is for all of that work to be on your living room floor!!!

12mm is thick enough for a 150 gal. especially since your longest panel is only 37 inches.

12 mm is more then enough, like stated above its only 37" so you'll be fine.

except that its 33" deep, glass thickness is more important for deeper tanks than it is for longer tanks.


I just had a 30" deep tank made, and all the makers I spoke to said 15mm glass......

I am curious why you picked such a deep tank? Is there some special consideration for livestock?

According to the aquarium glass thickness chart contained in "The Living Aquarium", using the depth and the longest side of your aquarium puts you dead center in the range for 12mm (1/2") glass for the side panels and 15mm (3/5") glass for the bottom panel.

I have an alcove where the tank is going which is restricting the width to below 39" but not height.

I am now recosidering and looking at the possibility of a 5 side corner tank instead to maximise the space. But I guess this will not be without its problems, I guess there needs to be quite a bit of bracing. As to weather the glass needs to be 15 mm or 12 mm again I dont know. Being the bank holiday I cant ring the experts who are making this so I am just guessing.

This tank would be over 160 uk gallon which would be great!

what are you planning on putting in the tank? What type of lighting are you leaning towards?

Mixed reef, and will be attempting a mix of LPS, SPS and Soft corrals.

My current 190 ltr has 8 fish and 26 species of various corrals, along with many inverts.

I have not decided on the light yet.
