Glue? Macros to Rock?

Hey. I'm back!

So I have been reading that you can use crazy glue to attach macros to rock? Is that right? Just store bought crazy glue?

Also, for those who remember me, I'm getting ready to start this project again. I've been running GFO to rid my tank of all the GHA, and I think I am almost there. I have a little 12g Biocube I'm trying to sell, but I'm going to fill it. I'm also going to buy a live rock from my LFS, hammer it into chunks and place a big macro order, and I'm going to use the 12g as my macro farm/attaching clinic. Once they are all doing well/staying put, I will add them to my tank all at the same time.

I do have C. Prolifera in tank still. It's doing great, even with GFO running.

As far as keeping the macros alive in the 12g, I was thinking of using my water change water from my 56g and no skimmer. Might have to add life as well, just not sure what yet. Maybe some hermits and feed them bits of shrimp.

But seriously. Crazy glue?
 
For me extra strength super glue works amazing. But it is pretty pricy. So if anyone has a lower cost option let me know.
 
It doesn't affect the macro? I have a bunch of little dragons breath pieces if like to glue into a flat rock but I've been a little afraid of losing them if the glue is harmful....guess I'll follow and see what others have to say

Regular old crazy glue works best when you can pat dry the end of the macro, then glue it to a rock. Giving them time in low current to attach sounds like a great idea! I lose a lot to high current.
 
Use the thicker gel formula, it is much easier to work. Macros with holdfast, Caulerpa sp, would not be appropriate for glue attachment. Considering the slippery nature of Dragons Breath, I doubt that it would work well.

I have had great results with Red Grapes.
 
ok here is my experience with this.
I set up a 2oL macro tank got in 12ish or so marcos...
I used the sandwich method of fragging:

pad dry macros use... the gel (I found that works best ) dab a bit on the ends. use JB water weld or the more expensive purple stuff (same thing just purple and 3X the price.)
now add the geled macros to the small blob of Jb weld then add more supper glue gel to the bottom and stick to LR than there you go...

tip don't spill lots of glue on macros... I did that to my dragon breath and after 4 weeks decided to break so I had a few branches and just re-glued them using this tech. works great.

not for macros with roots...I just planted them in the sand.

That sounds awesome. I did a bit of reading and no toxic reports. Perfect. Even if there is some zinc or sulfur that gets into the water column, it's going to be in my "frag" tank. I'll use it. Thanks!
 
So I got my orders in. Not everything shipped well, and the Hypnea pannosa I ordered was not blue. That was very disappointing. I was looking forward to that one in particular. Had them in the 12g for about 2 weeks, than moved them in the tank. In QT, the Botryocladia (Red Grape) was getting white tips. I thought maybe they were getting too much light, so when I moved them over to the big tank I reduced my lighting, and they are doing much better.

The super glue worked great. I love having them attached to little rocks because it is so much easier to clean them up. I just pull them out and rinse them in mixed saltwater. I'll post up some tank shots, and then maybe some gluing shots.

Thanks for the help. This worked out great. I'll see if this takes this time. I am still running GFO, believe it or not, and it hasn't hurt the macros yet, but is keeping down all the other stuff. I'm going to give this a few weeks and place another order.

Good to know. Yeah, it didn't do well in the 12g, so I tossed it. It was green out of the bag and then turned black once it was attached and in the QT. I'll try again.
 
Well, things are going very well. This might be the best my tank has been doing since the first 6 months. The nuisance algae is finally showing signs of being choked out. I'm seeing bald spots everywhere. The new algae is doing great. Nice color and no die off. Being able to take out the Red Grape and rinse them has been huge, I think. I rinse them in removed tank water every water change. Very handy.

I think it's almost time to order another algae. Very happy so far.
 
I was going to wait till dark to take some. Not that much different than the last, but a bit.

The other bit of news is that about the time my nuisance algae started to show signs of weakness, my skimmer stopped producing anything. Not sure if it needs a cleaning, or if there's just nothing there to skim. Gave it a good cleaning today. I'll see what happens.
 
Usually i take a small piece of rubble and just sit it on the macro until it attaches. Everytime I tried to glue macros like caulerpa and the like, the area I glued died off before the macro attached.

So far so good, but I can see the potential of that problem.
 
I usually rubber band the macro into a small piece or PUKARI Rock, If it's a algae like dragons tongue that won't attach to anything if your life depends on it then I would put it between a few pieces of rock and hope I don't find it in the back of the tank days later
