Hello,

I originally thought I was going to upgrad to a 90 gallon tank, but I'm keeping my 75 gal. I have a EuroReef skimmer that's working great and 440 VHO's. What would you buy for under $1000 for clams to thrive? What type of halides and calc reactor? The cover for my lights is about 12 inches above the water. Is there a good combination of halides and vho's to use? Can I keep from needing a chiller?

Thanks!

Taylor

Large fans will help temperature wise from needing a chiller. I don't have any experience with calc reactors, but I'm ordering an MRC CR-6 Dual for a 400 gallon settup (volume wise) and the MRC reactors look like the best price for what you get. If you want halides, don't go for 400's. Mine cause way too much heat in my 75 and the excessive light isn't needed. I would go for 250's or 250 HQI as the perfect halides for your settup, but with the current VHO settup, you could go for less wattage. If you can, I suggest electronic ballasts like coral vue, as I've had bad experiences with the heat caused by some magnetic ballasts (almost caused a fire when the fan crapped out). What other filtration do you have? If you don't have a fuge, then that too would be a good upgrade. Also, If you don't want to go for a calcium reactor, then you could try using a Kalk reactor. The much simpler design allows for greater simplicity. As far as bulbs if you decide on a halide settup, go for 10K or even 6500K because you can use the VHO's as actinic supplement. Have fun :)
