Gobies and Pistols!

So I introduced a Pistol shrimp into my tank yesterday. I've had my Yellow Watchman Goby for 6 months or so. The Pistol took over the home of my YWG.

The YWG has yet to return, and worse... the Pistol snaps @ him when it swims close.

Any tips out there ??

I introduced the pistol with a white ray shrimp goby at the same time some months gack- they are inseperatable. What size is the YWG?

Pistol Shrimp and Gobies don't always stay together and it's hit or miss if you add one or the other and hope that they will stay together.

My experience is that I've always been able to have them pair up. I've had three pistol shrimps and three gobies, each one has paired up just fine. Things may just calm betwee them, so just give it some time.

You didnt mention what type of pistol you have as certain ones like the purple targets are more aggressive and less likely to pair then other species.

Also, IME, YWG are also less likely to pair with pistols.

Thas exact the trouble. You probably got a Alpheus which is not a partner shrimp. Got a pic or could you identify it on the web?

Sorry to get off subject, but could someone tell me the best pistol shrimp to get with a Stonogobiops nematodes. AKA Hi-Fin Red Banded Shrimp Goby

I heard the Candy Stripe pistol shrimp pair well with the Hi Fin. I have a pair of Hi Fin's and a candy stripe in my nano. They have only been in the tank for a week and I haven't seen much of the pistol yet, but I hear him snap every now and then. I decided on this goby/pistol pair since they both stay rather small. Here is a pic of the shrimp I am talking about.

Actually, the most common pistols used for pairs in aquaria are Alpheus species. ie Alpheus bellulus (tiger pistol) and Alpheus randalli (candycane pistol)

Oh yeah, isnt that the Randal Shrimp. I have seen that before. I know you usally dont see much of them when they are in a tank, buy I do really like the colors. I will have to try to get a hold of one. Is it better to add the goby and shrimp at the same time? Im a week into hyposalinity for ich, and was wondering if when I put the Hi Fin back in, also get a pistol to put in.

I just introduced a randall's pistol and a high-fin red banded goby to a new tank over the weekend. I introduced them to the tank at the same time. They separated initially when they went into the tank, but they paired up beautifully within 36 hours. I think Im just lucky with Shrimp pairs, since both this pair and the last pair (Yasha Hasa with a randall's) paired up and created a burrow right at the front of the glass.

The best and only choice in nature is A. randalli

I haven't seen much of my Randalli yet, but I know he is burrowing with my two Hi Fin's. My Tiger pistol shrimp pair up with my Yasha Haze just fine even though the pistol was added much later than the fish.
