Goby Pistol Pair Help

TICK me right off...:mad2:

...Found an awesome pair of yasha hastings gobies paired with a tiger pistol shrimp and had to buy them today. After I got them acclimated, I netted all three of them and tried to press the net up against a rock for them to make home. As soon as the net hit the water, the gobies took off in seperate directions and the shrimp stayed in the net. Now all three are in totally different parts of the tank! I tried to prod them in the same direction, but that didnt work too well, almost had a fish jump on to the floor.

Well, half whining about it all, and half wondering if there is anything I can do to get them together again. What are the chances they will find eachother on their own?

i tried to have 2 Yasha gobies along with 2 tiger pistol shrimp.....
it didn't work out as i hoped, both shrimp ended up with one goby and the other wasn't allowed to join in in the fun... :(

he tried but the bigger more aggressive goby ran him off all of the time.. i'm guessing that they were both males and it just wasn't going to work out, so i caught and returned the aggressor and let the more timid goby be the victor!!! he got both of the shrimp.... :) all is well now....

just my experience.... lisa

they were all paired up at the store, all 3 in the same burrow, fish swam together, quite the spectacle. I'm just hoping they do a little exploring and team up again.

... more disappointed than a kid at Christmas with no batteries.

If they were paired in the store I wouldn't worry too much about it, they will more than likely find each other once they calm down and settle in.

Well good news (I think), and a heck of an interesting few nights!

Night one, all stayed in there separate corners. The gobies ate a bit as they were kind of out in the open.

Night two, the pistol abandoned its original burrow, and looked to have burrowed in to a new spot a bit central to the tank. The first burrow is at the tip of a Y piece of live rock, and coincidentally, the gobies were at the left and right side of the "Y". Now there is three burrows, one at the tip, one left, and one right (in the area the fish were split apart) with no fish or shrimp in sight! I fed earlier today, and the larger of the gobies poked its head out of the front of the burrow and grabbed a few pieces, but thats all I saw since they disappeared. VERY interesting, and judging by the size of the sand piles that are now near the burrows, I think they have a pretty large and cozy home!

... now I just hope they eat a bit more!

Thanks for all the replys. Thought I'd share the progress.

Thats great news. My first attempt to pair a goby and pistol was almost disastrous. The pistol somehow went in the overflow first and somehow the goby followed the next day! After days of trying to find them by following the clicking noise I found them. Now they have an elaborate tunnel system under several rocks. Then came trying to find a mate for the goby. First mate committed suicideby jumping out, second was a male I suppose and got beat up by the existing one. Gave him away. Third was dragged by my clowns to their anemone and we all know what happens then! Expensive fish dinner huh? Does anyone know for sure how to sex yasha gobies?

WOW!
I now consider myself lucky! (maybe) I bought the trio from the LFS as they were all together at that time. Feeding today, I saw the shrimp and the larger goby, I assume the smaller is in the burrow somewhere?
