Going from Softy and LPS to SPS tank

I have a 100gal. that has been setup for ove 6 years, running excellent. It has a ton of softies and LPS everything doing very well, I want to try my hand with SPS, how do i go about do it. do i remove all the other corals, and let the tank sit for some time what is the best way to make this work.

I'm no expert but, I am doing the same thing, I have removed some of my soft corals and kept all of my LPS. Just added a few sps frags. I have lost a couple in learning but I have a blue stag that is growing like crazy and a couple others that are encrusting the frag plug. I do plan on removing a few more softies but, as long as it is working, I plan on keeping a few softies around for now.

I would remove all softies, they create a lot of chemicals that might bother your SPS,LPS will be fine with SPS.What kind of lighting are you using now?SPS need a lot more light than soft corals and LPS.You will need to start dosing Ca and ALK,if you don't yet,to keep your SPS grow. Also SPS need a lot more flow,so this needs to be addressed as well.

I'm in the same boat as you right now guppy. +1 on removing the soft corals if you're going all out to immediately switch, but before you decide to start ripping out corals I suggest getting a couple of SPS frags, just to see how they grow. See if they need more light, what levels of flow they need, what areas of the tank they do well in, stuff like that. Also, as tempting as it is to just buy a bunch of huge and colorful wild collected corals I suggest starting with aqua cultured corals. The best place in my opinion to start is a frag swap. People are almost always friendly and knowledgeable, and corals are super cheap. At a good swap and you can get twice the variety for half the price of store bought corals in my experience.
