Going sps with Nuvo 8 setup

Nemos Boss

New member
I have a IM Nuvo 8g AIO that i plan to switch over to sps dominant. Im currently keeping a few BN, but id love a millie or maybe an acro. My lighting will be upgraded next week to 12 Cree leds suspended about 12in i hope. I am running a Fluval G3 series canister filter. I do my weekly deal. Its been nice so far. I also have a RKL, SL1 and ALC. ALC controls sunrise/sunset affect. My temp hasnt moved since adding this and having an awesome AC unit nearby. I plan to keep Nemo. I do my weekly change of 2.5 gallons at exactly the same salinity and temp.Should i spend the money on an mp10, plumbing a sump to add water volume or a doser? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for lookin ?

Looks like a Nuvo 8 a buddy of mine just got his we should be starting on it tomorrow keep us posted with pix to show the progress trust me we will be tagging along.

thanks tpallas. thats exactly what the sl1 does. it will be here next week. otherwise top of is only a 4 cups of water a day. not bad. when the temp rises in my house the fans go on then i could be putting up to half gallon. not good.

Updated Pic... I added a birds of paradise, red monti, and a tiny green milli frag today. I also got rid of my mini frag rack.

That is not the stock lighting. I took the origional fixture and removed the crappy 1w leds and added three xt-e rb two xp-g cw and a single uv. all ran at 700ma. Im updating my lighting hopefully next week when my makers led heatsink gets here. http://www.clay-boa.com/makersled-designer-heatsink-kit-professional-grade/ I purchased the 6" version hoping to fit 12 leds total. 6rb 3cw 1 red 1 green 1 uv.

did you run the mod using the power supply that the Nuvo came with or mod that too?

would you mind sharing the details of your initial mod and showing us a few pics? I have a nuvo 8 thats still sitting in the box at my house... I am unsure about modding the light because I want to keep things looking stock/clean. were you able to work the higher power LEDs into the stock fixture?

To me the point of running these nano's is the acheive a bad *** reef in a small aquarium. Onto lighting... the fixture opens completely up the just 6 screws. take the faceplate off and remove stock leds.. very easy they are held in by two screws. Next take six and only six 3w leds of your choice and use a thermal adhesive to glue em down. I drilled holes where there was room careful not to drill my newly placed leds. You will need a mini fan. sold at radioshack. I lined the grey faceplate back up with the leds and kept the original moonlights. its really easy. you will need a new powersupply. If your not acclimating any corals then dimming isnt necessary. i bought a meanwell 700ma driver.. very easy and straight forward.

I think im gonna wait on the sump. My parameters have been very steady recently. Im thinking an mp10 would be awesome right now, but i cant find $235 laying around :(

wow. looking great! I too am thinking that a suped up filter is in order for my nuvo8 (if i ever fill it with water) my intention is to use an AquaC remora skimmer on the back and use some of the BRS ROX high density carbon in my first chamber. (maybe with some GFO depending)

I noticed that you have a new light. Whats the story there? you posted some mods above...did those not work out? what is the new light you're using and why did you switch?

Looking great dude!

I switch out the lighting because im going sps dominant. I am slowly adding leds to the new jbj unibody. I still have my other lighting. I might save it for a backup or sell really cheap. not quite sure yet. This jbj heatsink is much wider, but creates allot of light pollution. I fixed that fish some rubber and double sided tape.
