Going to Florida!

Hey everyone, I will be heading out tomorrow to Florida. I wanted to pick some stuff up from the LFS's down there, but how would I bring them back? Also if anyone knows some good stores down there, please let me know. And how to transport them back.

Thanks

PM Carl Kmeic123, I am pretty sure it was him that I was talking to about bringing stuff on an airplane. There are regulations, and I know some people that have been made to empty out bags from corals and had death occur because of it. Know the rules before hand, and you will be better off. Those bag inspectors can not tell if a coral is alive or not, don't expect them to.

joe, We will not be flying to Florida, but driving. Thats why I am wondering how to transport the coral/other livestock.

Straight through? If so, everything should be fine as long as it has plenty of water/oxygen in the bags. You should be able to just have them use larger bags than usual; tell them your situation. If you need, I still have a bunch of styro boxes that you can have.

Even better than an air pump is a live well pump in the boating isle at walmart. It will circulate the water for you on 12 volts.

TSA is our finest...Nice to know if you're functionally illiterate and have an extra chromosome there’s a place for you.

FED EX. It will be there before you're checked bags

Good your're driving...All slould be fine. I did it with air stones and coolers.

i just flew back from florida on the 24th and my son (long story) ended up with a beta and wanted to bring it home. well it was in a small rubbermaid container half full of water. the lady at the check in counter said he could not bring the fish on the plane. i said well then security will end up with a fish and see a crying kid :-) so we walk out for a last smoke and two of tsa workers came out for a smoke as well. so i asked them about it and they said if anyone give you grief ask for a supervisor. so as we walk up to security the guy asks my four year old what he had in the bowl and he shows them :-) the guy laughs as i tell him this kid has carried this fish for three days everywhere we went :-) all they did was test the water and let us thru :-) but then we go to board the plane the lady looks at me and says what is that. i say humm duh its a fish. she said you cant bring that on. i say why not security let me thru she said yea but they might not let it on the plane but hide it :-) so i did i hid it and all was good

Where in Florida???? I know several good places down near Ft. Lauderdale. I bring corals back when I fly and visit my daughter down there.

She's up here this Christmas, the cold weather/snow is killing her. All I can do is laugh and laugh !!!!!

I only drive to Florida....geez, I hate to fly, and a Styrofoam container will drive you crazy squeaking for 22 hours. Spring for a good, hard plastic cooler and you'll be better off. I have transported many things back from Florida for over 10 years without any casualties. During very cold weather, I keep a lot of heat packs on hand to replace before things get cool. Keep a thermometer between a couple of the bags so you can get a temp reading. A piece of bubble wrap over the top of the bags with a blanket on top will keep all the heat from escaping when you open the cooler.
I am considering asking my son, a pilot, to see if he could bring things on board the next time he comes from Orlando...I just don't want to get him in trouble for trying!!
