Going to Georgia Aquarium

Hello Gang,
This is Tom, Linda's Husband. She called me from where she is staying in NC and spent time with me on the phone last night figuring out a way she could arrange to fly home with a layover in Atlanta and possibly go to the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. You know Linda, she figured out a workable plan.
She asked me to post this in the hopes that any of you out there may have been to The Aquarium in Atlanta and can give her any pointers on what to make sure she sees while there. She figures she will have one shot at this and wants to see as much as she can. I understand she is going to do the Behind the scenes tour while there.
She wanted me to say hello to all and she misses being on the forum while she has been away.

Thanks,
Tom

Thanks,
She is staying in Duck and in fact is going to the NC Aquarium in Roanoke Island tomorrow. There are three different Aquarium sites in NC one of which is in Fort Fisher. The one in Roanoke Island is only about 10 Miles from where she is staying.

Tell her it is a NO -HANDS -ON exhibit. they really frown on patrons jumping into tanks, or trying to do maintainance on them who are not official "STAFF" members despite her being a Fish-Goon.

:p

Speaking of Fish goons she is going tomorrow to take a class in "Gyotaku" An ancient Japanese art of producing a print from real fish.

I love sushi, I'm just not sure I want to know how to produce a print from a real fish. I figure it must involve fingerprint ink pads or worse.

If she sees bruce carlson, tell her to say hi for me. She should be able to take the whole thing in. There is a thread here on RC with a lot of photos from the aquarium. She should really enjoy it.

I had a great time at the Georgia Aquarium. Tom told me that Michael G. said look up Bruce Carlson while I was there....so I did....lordy, I thought that he just worked there, not that he was the Vice President of Education, Conservation & Exhibits. Needless to say I had a very very nice behind the scenes tour.
Thank you Michael G. for the name :-)

Glad you got to meet him. He is quite a guy. If you ever have a chance to see him speak it is awasome- he does it all in DVD and much is from his trips to various incredible reefs around the world.

Michael

Guess I will be going back to the Georgia Aquarium next month....booking a trip for the family to Cozumel...amazing that the stop over is in Atlanta ;-). Tom and I are going to try scuba diving in Mexico.

....now this posting should be followed by a comment from scorp1on ;-) go ahead Brian :-)

I think Linda means Brian is going to say something about leaving the corals and rock in the ocean LOL

After showing some photos of the aquarium and telling my daughter about it she actually asked about seeing the place. I almost fell over. She is 15 and very sweet but her interests (at this point in her life) are the perfect outfit/makeup/hair, friends and boys. I almost fell over when she got excited about seeing the aquarium.

I went to Duck, NC with a friend whose husband recently passed away. We had a good time but it was a bit emotionally draining to say the least. I was sooo happy to get to the aquarium on my way home but felt guilty that Tom didn't get to see it. (He is getting more into this fish/reef stuff bit by bit).

Since we had some free Delta vouchers that were expiring in August and a week at a time share we would loose by the end of the year I am lucky that I found this resort in Cancun. (just this morning I finalized this place....I have been up ALL night trying to find a cool place we could afford) check it out www.sunsetlagoon.com Works out with all my vouchers/freebies to $300 per person for the entire week.

I think Tom deserves a good vacation for putting up with me ;-) (and for those who know me you all probably agree)

If Tom can't get the time off of work, it would be a shame to see said trip to a primo dive-spot go to waste................

Lets hope for no hurricanes, and free-time for Tom... YAYYYY !!!
