Going to Maui in April anyone have a favorite snorkeling spot? Went to Kauai 2 years ago and dsicovered snorkelling Snorkeling is like diving into my aquarium. My favorite thing in the world

The snorkeling off of Black Rock is superb. We saw turtles, eels, tangs, idols and a small shark. Black Rock is in front of the Sheraton right on Kaanapali beach. I loved being able to walk right off the beach and start snorkeling without having to take a boat and spending money. For a day trip, take a trip out to Molokini. Molokini is a sunken volcano crater that makes a sort of lagoon. Most tours after going to Molokini take you to a second spot for turtles, dolphins, ect. For Black Rock or Molokini, morning trips are preferred. After about lunchtime, the winds pick up affecting visibility. Other good places are supposed to be Kapalua and Napili - but I don't have any first hand knowledge of them. I was there in 2004 and am going to Oahu this summer.

I Was in maui in dec. It was GREAT! If you rent gear try Snorkle Bobs 875-6188. Four stores on maui and gear is A-1. We stayed at Kihei nice central location. Did the morining trip to molokini on the four winds Fun trip. Makena bay was great snorkling also La Perouse bay. WE liked the south west side of the island best. Went to hana ,longest 30 mi you wll ever drive. If you have a day of bad weather go to the maui ocean center huge reef tanks! Dont force it let it happen!! Aloha........

I was in Maui at Christmas too. Stayed in Makena which is just south of Kihei so I imagine me and sixranch had similar experiences. Where are you going to be staying? I'll find you a link to all the shore diving/snorkeling sites when I have a few minutes.

fishmogul,

Check out the above site. We really enjoyed Ahihi Bay. Ahihi Cove is nice too and much more sheltered. Shore entries (through the wave break) can be an adventure. I suggest wearing booties so you can walk in through the breaking waves and then put your fins on. The beaches aren't all sandy. I was a little disappointed with the corals in Maui but the fish and invert life was amazing.

It's been about 10.5 years, but I remember Mile Marker #7 is real nice for snorkeling. A snorkel trip out to Molokini is recommended, but look out for the big waves. BlackRock was also nice, but we did the dive there.

Their website says they rent shorties but there's gear rentals everywhere you look on Maui. The dive packages I looked at all included gear and wetsuits and from what I saw it was decent stuff.
