 Husband is taking us on a family vacation for my and my son's birthday!:bounce1::celeb3: OK, I've booked a whale watching trip (DH didn't want to do that one, LOL) and we are going to the aquarium, what other things are must sees and places to eat are must goes? Was thinking Sardine Factory. Getting really excited, haven't been to Monterey since I was little and have never been to the aquarium there.

Sardine factory = overrated.

Check out this restaurant called Passionfish. Great idea. Great place. Go there and you'll enjoy it, I guarantee it. ;)

The beaches in Carmel are great...Right next the golf course. Pebble Beach :)

Thing's to do...

If you have time, A walk down Old Fisherman wharf is good, Lots of good restraunts. Just outside of the Wharf area is the Old Custom House museum. At the Aquarium, check out the Jellfish.

I was there a year ago and I wish I'd paid the extra money to get a behind the scene tour. I did not because the people I was with were not that interested. If I had it to do over again, I would have my friends entertain themselves elsewhere while I took advantage of the opportunity to really see how they run the place.

x2 on the sardine factory being overrated, haven't been to the Monterey Bay Aquarium since I was like 12, the most impressive memory was the tide pool, I remember being a kid and spending over an hour touching and looking at everything in the tide pool. Very cool display, I don't even know if they still have it :/ Very jealous have a great trip! we expect pictures!

Got the Bonine ready for tomorrow's whale watching excursion :). Sounds like we need to check out Passionfish.

OMG, looking at the menus for the Old Fisherman Wharf and my mouth is watering! I'm going to Cioppino heaven! Every restaurant has it!:inlove: Seems like practically every place has sandabs and calamari too, YUM! (though I don't remember having sandabs, LOL, gotta try it).

Fresh clam chowder! Absolutely delicious.

Just a heads up, it's about $8-12 for a tiny cup.

LOL, that's the beauty of it, DH picks up the tab for our birthdays :lmao:

Debating on the abalone too but it is big $$$$, haven't had that since I was a kid when my dad dived for it (back then had it so much was sick of it, man wish for that again).

If you want to go on nice hikes, go to Point Lobos. Avoid Monastery Beach (often refered to as Mortuary Beach) because a lot of drowning occurs there. As mentioned above, there is a lot of great tide pooling area. I also like to visit the Mission San Carlos Borromeo del Rio Carmelo (located in Carmel) http://www.carmelmission.org/museum/ . Too bad you're not a diver, because there are some great diving spots in Monetrey.

I also like the Fishwife (seafood restaurant) located in Pacific Grove (http://www.fishwife.com/). Good seafood at a decent price. Oh - also stop by a motel and pick up the "coupons" that they have. With a coupon, at some restaurants, you get free appetizers with an entree purchase. There is also a seafood restaurant on Canary Row that is great. (I just can't remember the name right now.)
