Going to need another wife after this... tank build log

Setting up another tank... Originally my plan was to do a FOWLR, but the reef bug bit me and decided to do another reef. I haven't added anything to my 380 gallon in over 8 month. With all the pests in the hobby and my tank doing well, I don't think it's worth the risk SO..... I decided I need another tank to add stuff to on a regular basis. Anyway that's my story and I'm sticking with it. Now about the tank and the goodies

Tank is being built by Scott (Spazz) 36x30x24 tall
-going to be barebottom with black back and bottom viewable from three sides.

Stand: Custom Made Hickory stand and canopy being built by Ryan Neilson. He does awesome work so it should be nothing less than amazing!

Lights- ATI Powermodule 10x339w T5's. I've used T5's in the past and decided to give them another shot. I have Halides on everything else so it's a little different.

Flow. 4x Tunze 6000's with 7095... Return pump Dart This sytem is attached to another prop tank so I'm just going to use one return on everything. Yes, flow is a good thing.

Chiller. I'm going to use fans for a while but my plan is to purchase another 1 HP 220v chiller. I've wanted one as back up to my main tank so I figure just use it on the little setup instead of just collecting dust. Yes it's way way over rated but it doesn't matter

Controller: will be my ACIIIP which I use to run my seperate prop. So no different than how things are already running

Skimmer: Octopus Pro 250 Internal. Just came out on the market and so far it's seems like a good skimmer. I only have one fish in my prop so it doesn't skim much as of now.

Water changes: The system will be on a 24 hour water change with my 380 gallon, This will take the water from my big tank and move it to this tank making 25% water change a WEEK. This does a couple of things on the new tank... I won't need a calcium reactor, carbon, phosphate etc... since it's getting "good" water from my other tank which means cutting the cost on a bunch of stuff.

Rock: I have about 100lbs of rock, but plan on getting another 50 so I have a little to pick and choose from. All of it is baserock at this time. I plan on curring it for a month then putting it in Saltwater for a couple weeks with phosphate reactor and skimmer. By that time the tank should be ready. I'm hoping Brad will come over and build some of those awesome structures!

Thats the low down of the system... Here is some of the goodies I've collected so far...

Sounds like a pretty cool and easy setup! I've been eyeing the ATI powermodule T5 setups as well, they're a pretty slick looking unit!

Good luck with it, if it's half as good as your other tank looks it will be amazing!

So when you are going to tell the wife about your new endeavor?

Nice collection so far...so when is the tank coming, 2-3months? Where is this going? Is this going where you had the 60 cube?

On the tank, are you going with an internal or external overflow? What style?

The build of the lights are awesome!!! It's too bad they are going to be placed in a canopy, but I think I like the canopy look better, plus it doesn't allow any kid "stuff" entry.

She knows about it. I'm trying to get her to have it upstairs but I don't think she will allow that... maybe after she sees the stand and canopy. It will probably just end up where the 60 was but I plan on finishing the basement so it will be seen.

Spazz said he was going to start on it in three weeks, so not really sure.

Going to be internal. want it next to the wall so external is out of the question.

That's the main reason I'll probably not end up using one of them, the canopy adds a little extra security! The last thing I need is a ninja turtle swimming next to a clam or something! :D

He's got a good point! It will probably end up being like a 675 gallon starphire cube! :smokin:

JJ what are your fish plans for this tank? I think you should go with a bunch of really tiny fish, since you can't have them in the big tank. You should start with 25 trimma gobies.

How bout the coral plans? Are you still thinking about going with all Tyree le stuff?

Brad

ps, the idea of setting this tank up downstream from your big tank is great. You should get really crazy and set up a tank down stream from the new one. Don't put any filtration on it at all and stock non sps.

It's going to be all choice corals going in this tank, so yeah LE/tyree pieces.

I don't need another tank yet.... This should be plenty for a year or so :)

I plan on only keeping little fish in it. Anthias, wrasses, chromis, maybe one tang. for algae.
