now i work at a petstore that sells saltwater fish. ( WORK not own) would i have to pay the 25 bucks

no as long as your representing yourself your good at $15. Now you can get the store to pay for you to come for them and kill two birds : )

Joe, this is not true. ANYONE who makes more than 50% of their income in the hobby is considered commercial. Yes, if you work at a fish store and make more than 50% of your income their you are considered commercial.

For anyone who is interested, the exact working in our by-laws is..."A member shall be considered commercial if s/he earns fifty percent (50%) or more of his/her income by working for a retail or wholesale establishment that sells tropical fish or equipment, or someone who owns such an establishment."

Just curious:
If you work for Petco, or Petsmart, But will be
attending meetings as an individual hobbyist (meaning not representing the store you work for in anyway), you'd still have to pay more for membership, just because of your work place?

yes

How could we as a club discuss this by-law?
It really does not sound fair...IMO
I would understand a store owner, or a representative of
a shop, but not an individual whom is neither representing the shop or owns it....IMO

A by-law can be changed by a board member requesting a change. The board of directors (BOD) then needs to vote on this change. After that the club in general needs to approve this change at a general meeting. It will be impossible to change this by-law before tonights membership sign up, but if you would like to come to the next BOD meeting (February 5th) to discuss it just let me know.

I'm glad you will be able to make it!

lol you made it clear at the meeting who pays what

anyways. im glad i went. lots of cool corals up for auction. actualy borrowed money from a friend lol
( got him to join as well)

Just for the record since we are getting technical, the clubs rules does not requieres you to be a memeber at all to attend the meetings or be part of the auction. On the other hand you will need to pay or pay more as a non-member for special events and field trips.
You will also loose on the discount some LFS extend to club members.
Here is a copy of the by laws as they are shown in our website, I hear this are not complete but I think most of your questions will be answered

I discussed it over with some members at the meeting... and got a better grasp of the concept for this bylaw. I stand corrected...
I now have a better understanding of the by-law and why it is the way it is.
Thanks
