Going with new 40gbreeder for new Apt.Hoping to keep a diverse
reef mostly LPS with some SPS.

Hoping Specs:

-40gB tank/drilled for custom input and output(2drains/2returns)
-29g sump
-external pump-1000g/hr
-hang on aquafuge 2 sump(2 be added later)
-asm-g1 or h&s skimmer
-custom stand
-custom cap
-either 150 HQI or 175w screw-in socket M.H retro 10,000k with 2x96w actinics.
-2 fans and 2 vents in cap
-seio 820 on a controller

What do you guys think? What M.H should i choose? what color
bulbs look good? and anyone with a 40gb please post pics?

I skipped the mh and went 6x39w t5s on my 40b- will only be lighting 4 . . . got a good deal on the 6. Lights come next week- I'll post some pics then. Also had a custom overflow built at a local acrylic shop for a second 40B my buddy is doing.

The 40 breeder has got to be one of the best small (stock) tanks out there!

not really a nano though. But I love 40br also. 30s are pushing the envelope for nanos and over at nano-reef most of thise guys would argue that anythign over 20 isn't really a nano. :)

Good luck with the tank though!

for a 40b i suggest 4x39w T5 W/IC 660(must have) other wise go with a 250w phoenix in a DE luminarc or a SE XM in a luminarc mini. Regular luminarc(19in wide) are to wide for 40b(18in wide)

Overdriving T5s with an Icecap 660 is way overkill for a 16 inch deep tank even for sps. And if you have a 2 inch sandbed then your bottom corals will only be 14 inches deep. Also with the 660 it's all or nothing- you won't be able to have dawn/dusk. Just make sure to get good reflectors if you go T5. I LOVE my 4x39 Tek T5 with two triad ballast and Icecap reflectors. Right now I have a total of two 4x39 retro kits and a 6x39 Tek T5 hood for two 40breeders and a custom 90.

no seio please u want a tunze nano stream i would say two of them will be right im serious the seio will dissapoint you and your sps

thanks guys but i dont kno much about these t-5's.Ive heard alot about them but do they give off enough light intensity as metal halides do, to not only keep but grow sps.Im not one who likes to keep corals or fish just for the "look" ,but to see them thrive is what drives me and im sure many of you are the same.i know these metal halides get hot put im planning to keep it in a well vented and faned cap way above the water column.

I will look out for these tunze pumps.whats a good website for these? Also im going to get the tanked drilled soon i think im going with 2 drains and 2 returns. The 2 drains are gunna be in the back and the 2 returns on the 2 sides about 3in away from the corner seams. Please give me some feedback on other drilling designs.dont wanna go with an overflo box 2 much time n money.

I just started my 40g breeder and I use a 250 hamilton mh that is beautiful but throws a lot of heat. I have it about 12 inches from the water on a make-shift light stand. One thing to consider is how many bulbs will you have to replace when the time comes. One for the mh or 4 or 6 for the t5's. Just a thought

i got my nano stream at the salty critter i think premium aquatics has some as well also try phishy buisnes i just switched from one seio and 3 small powerheads to one nano stream

i was actually thinkin of the hamilton 250w,but i might just get a retro. Will the 250w MH and the 2x96w pcs be to much? or should i go with the 150or 175w?The less heat the better you know.

I have a 14K MH 150w over my 40, gives ok coverage but if i had to do it again i would go with 250w at a good hight, or 2x150. Just my .02
