I went down to the Outer Banks for the weekend for some fishing. While I was there I picked up some critters along the shore, including a crab (a young blue, I think), and a small Florida Horse Conch. Gojira, my peacock, discovered the crab this morning. The hunt was wild - once the mantis realized the crab was in there, it just went nuts, swimming all around the tank looking for it. Every time it'd discover the crab - SMACK - a crab limb would go flying. After both claws were knocked off, Gojira moved in. The crab seemed to embrace the mantis, SMACK SMACK went the clubs, and then the crab was hustled off to Gojira's lair. Within a few minutes, she pulled the crab back out into the open, under an overhang, and started feasting. Here's some shots of the aftermath:
Finally, a decent meal:
Crab sushi's the best:
Gojira's porch. Gojira's about 5 - 6 inches long.
The Florida Horse Conch. Hopefully this won't end up being a meal - it's nearly as long as Gojira, and fairly heavy.
