Golan, I know you have a 180 being built at SoCal.

How will the overflows be setup?
How about the returns?
Any closed loop
What stand are you using?
Cannopy?
Lights?
Which sump & retrun pump?
Skimmer?

I'm looking for a new 180g also.

Thanks
Doug

one overflow - external

i am drilling 6 holes in the eurobracing for returns and drilling 4 holes in the back for closed loop intakes

they are building a 34" stand and canopy is 14" tall

lights will be 3x10k xms and 2 140w vhos

40g sump with rio 2500 return through chiller

planning for a g-4x skimmer

You got a pimped out system, no doubt about it.

But only flaw is that RIO pump. Id consider you get a better pump.

Mine in the past have leaked out electrical current into my tank, I know this because Id disconnect everything and see what the hell t was till I left the RIO running on its own. They warp, and I never had one that lasted me more than 7 months. It could be my luck, but I went through 6 RIO pumps since Ive been in the hobby.I only use them to mix my SW now.

Id recommend an EHEIM or an Ocean Runner if your going with a submersible pump. Low wattage pumps, super silent, and reliable..

Just my 2 cents.

thanks for the feedback guys...

wow...im really getting hammered on the RIO...ehehe...it was cheap and it was exactly what i needed in terms of flow and connection. I'll replace it if it fails. so far it's doing a good job.

to answer some questions...

1. i am not getting one of their sumps...i may buy a used one, build one, or use rubbermaid containers.

2. they are using 3/4" acrylic since its eurobraced

3. i only plan to run 600gph max on the return...(internal pump) - so i think the panword 50pxx is overkill.

The problem with rio pumps is that sometimes when they fail , they send liquified epoxy resin into the tank, and it kills almost everything. When a 60 dollar item kills a system that you have dumped thousands of dollars into.... well, it sucks.

wow...that bad? anyone want to buy a rio pump? :)
