Gold Bar Maroon or Regular Maroon

I went to this LFS the other day for the first time b/c they had a ton of juvenile gold bar maroon clowns. The guy that owns the place seemed like he was clueless when i asked him SW questions and questions about the clown.

Now I know juve gold bars dont have the gold bars... they get them as he/she matures. About how old until the gold starts to show?

Or do juve gold bar maroons have any visual markens that a regular juve maroon clown doesnt have.

towards the end of their first year they should start to show some yellow on their head stripe. this is the first place you should look.

yep. Ive had my juvi about 3 months and there a light milky yellow forming on its first bar.
Im not sure if this is correct. its just what I notice.. but it seems white stripes bars are much thinner. and *most* gold bars ive seen have a bump on theyre middle bar.
my juvi was wild caught and they had the female, male and about 20 juvis in the store so it took the guess work out. heres what he looked like day 1 ;)

If you need any help pairing or anything I can help a bit.

yah.... i orignally got a true perc but my six-line harrassed it until it finally died :(

so i went and got a maroon b/c they are the toughest of the clown family......... thought i was getting a gold stripe.......

but i've had him for about 2 months now... he's about 1 1/2" - 2" and isnt showing any signs of being a gold stripe.......oh well no biggie

he's already using my hairy mushrooms as a host.... so i cant get rid of him now

also he HATES! my hands being in HIS tank....... and he HATES the magfloat cleaning the glass of HIS tank!

lol I think my maroon bit me... og... 7 times today. never was an issue until my nem split. now shes super protective...

She also moved a kenya tree frag, an acran, threw a torch on the sand, knocked down 3 rocks that were much heavier than her, and buried my recordia.

guess shes redecorating for her new nems... I was kinda shocked! I came home and my whole tank looked different.

wow...... i've never heard of a maroon rearranging stuff!

every time i have to put my hand in the tank.... even if its on the other side of the tank..... he will come over and bite me with no fear...... i've actually wack him away (gently of course) to try to show him that the "almighty hand" is boss! i guess it doesnt work

I read that maroons rearange. cant remember where. but Ill definatly vouch for it lol

They are considered the best housewives. always trying to keep everything neat and tidy. (if you consider giant creators dug into your sand and upside down frags tidy.. but you know..) lol

they are also considered to take excellent care of theyre anemones.

I got my biggest baddest net out, and tried to keep it over my hand so she couldent get to me. worked for a second.. but she figured out how to come up from behind

hahaha.... i'll have to watch closely at mine....

cause i have noticed mounds of sand.... looks like a sand volcano
i have no clue where they come from.... i have a sand sifting star but it doesnt do anything like that

another funny "clown moment".....

my clown uses a rock that has 5 hairy mushrooms on it as his host... so obviously when i feed the tank the clown takes the food to its host. well after about 3 months he hasnt noticed that his host doesnt eat the food. now my six-line for some reason is the biggest scaredy-cat (is that how you spell it?).... for some reason he/she doesnt like me or anything "out of the ordinary". so my six-line will wait until i'm away from my tank and will go over to the hairy mushrooms when the clown isnt looking and take the food off of the hairy mushrooms.... and then darts back into the rockwork.

who knew a glass tank with water, rocks and livestock would be so fun to watch and give you so many odd and unusual stories to share

I never had a clue. I thought id fill it with water add some rocks, throw in some fish, and wala. ha!!

I had a deepsandbed b4 i moved. my female moved every bit of it away from the nem until it was bare bottom all around her, and the sand on the sides of the tank was almost 6-7 inches high!

a pair. I had the female about (hard to remember!) 3-4 months. I was to scared to add another one.. alot of maroon horror stories!
I wondered into my lfs one day.. and there they were a BUNCH of REALLY small juvis... It was love at first site. I had to make it work for me! so i bought him, qt'ed him 6 weeks while I studied.

Heres my thread on it. It strays a lil bit, but theres a BUNCH of good stuff on what happened n stuff. (it was easier than I was told and thought)

Its crazy. Im pretty sure my female was already female.. but its been 2 1/2 months since the juvi (lil steve) was added and my female has gotton QUITE larger, and she went from bright red to almost black.
(i love showing off. heres my pic :D )

lemme know if u need any help pairing :)

nice...

yah i'm not going to do a pair in my tank.....

i've heard that once they pair up..... they get extremly aggressive towards other fish.... and they wont mate with other fish in the tank as well

and i dont want any fights in my tank!

Ill let u know. :) I have a tang in qt right now. couple more weeks and its going in.

Ive read that as long as the fish doesent look similar it'll be ok. they'll gaurd theyre territory, but thats all.
