Looks like a wound to me; possibly infected. Is this a new fish or what? If it were Uronema, there should be more than just one spot.

new fish yes.. no other fish in the QT. there is something similar to that by its gill on other side.

I'm guessing it didn't have these red sores when you bought it. It's very possible this fish succumbed to Septicemia. A gram-negative bacterial infection, such as Septicemia, will take a fish quick. Gram-positive infections are a lot more treatable. Sorry for your loss.

yep did not come like that.. is this something in my QT tank.. which by the way was fishless for 4 weeks before i placed him in the QT

Here is shot of the other side. Need to find out what this is. And now what to do with the QT he was in.

Thanks

I recently lost my punctato butterfly whith what appears to be the same condition. Was alone in QT for 3 weeks, red spot showed up on its side within 8 hours dead with an open wound. Reasons I've heard so far was uronema or vibrio. Following along here for more info and treatment options :-(

Sorry for your loss, goldflakes are one of my favorites.

ok so what kills uroema.. i read that it survives on bacteria.. does not need a host fish. if i can assume now that my QT has it.. i think i want to convert my qt to QT with Methelynene blue. Which would then be called a Hospital tank I guess.. I understand that Methelyene blue is easier on fish then copper is this correct.. and will Methelynene blue kill the uroema ?

send your resized pics to bob fenner & see what he says. He's a great resource & highly responsive. If you think it's something in your qt, I'd nuke it w/ some bleach & try a restart. I'd like to know what he says as well. Sorry for your loss - it was beautiful.
