Gold Heart trigger

Dan, did you get a new goldheart or is that the previous one? Look forward to seeing pics of your blueline too.

Recty, glad to hear that your guy perked up. I'm sure with a little tlc all will be well.

Well, he is being very skittish in a QT tank right now, so I didnt want to scare him more with a flash. I only took one picture, it didnt turn out that great but once he calms down some more, I'll get some better shots.

Me too. He hasnt eaten yet and it's been a day and a half. All my other triggers have eaten within an hour.

He did ship really bad though, so hopefully he is just still recovering from that.

I have been, good idea though. I called him when I got it in and it was in such poor shape. I'm going to be calling him today at lunch and seeing what they were feeding it exactly, maybe the same food it used to eat will stimulate it to eat again.

What all have you tried to offer? If you have some PE Mysis (or something similar) try soaking some in selcon and dropping it into the qt, so the powerhead really moves the food around in the tank. This will often get the fishes attention, and every single trigger I've known cannot resist PE Mysis.

I havent tried mysis yet, I'll do that.

What I've been feeding is my mix of scallops, shrimp, halibut and tuna, all small hunks that have been soaked in Selcon and mixed with some Spectrum pellets that have been ground up previously.

It makes a really stinky hard to resist food item, but apparently this guy can resist. I'll try some mysis today after work, I'll have to go to the store and get some as right now I'm out.

I really hate feeding small foods directly into the water in QT, as it can just get wasted and its really hard to siphon small foods out...

Yeah, I know what you mean about small food and qt. Use a turkey baster to inject some directly into the powerhead stream - not a lot but enough to get the guys attention. Mysis were my undy's favorite food by far...she would go absolutely nuts over them.

I talked to the guy at JustRareFish.com after lunch and he said mysis are what they feed, so I'll have to go pick some up after work.

I guess once I get him eating, then I can worry about switching him over to my mix of marine meats.

He also said some of their fish seem to really love the spectrum pellets, which I have plenty of. It is also part of what I mix into my food I feed all my other fish, so hopefully it starts liking that.

The crappy thing is I've got the fish in a stupid 55g hex for a quarantine. It's acrylic so the top isnt open, it's a real pain to siphon all over the tank. Small amounts of siphoning isnt hard, but aiming all over the bottom and getting it all sucked up is going to "suck".

My undy loved spectrum pellets too. I really don't think some fishkeepers realize how much even the big guys love mysis...had a blueline grouper that would just gulp them up by the mouthful as well.

Let us know when you get him eating...surely won't be too long now. :)

Yeah, hopefully not. The guy at JustRareFish.com said it could be a week or two and he wouldnt even be worried unless it gets to be close to a month without eating.

The fish is well shaped, but he certainly isnt FAT, I dont think I'd want him to go a month without eating.

For my case, the BL trig is in a 10 gallon qt and being fed soaked shrimp (selcon) sliced and stuck on a skewer stick. It eats fine now, but it didn't go for the chop and drop method. Try the feed stick if you haven't. More of a target feed approach.

Yeah, I've been trying a feed stick so far, no luck.

Tonight I dropped in some Selcon soaked mysis, still no luck.

I'll keep trying that for a couple days and see what happens.

I'll get him eating before a month is up, I'm not too worried yet. I actually have him in with a 3" pink tail that is very mellow, but I'm hoping the pink tail eating will stimulate the gold heart to eat.

Still not eating! I've tried mysis since Tuesday evening, mysis soaked in Selcon and the other vitamin supplement stuff that Kent makes, cant remember the name right now.

The pink tail in there with him is at least an inch if not 2 smaller, so he definitely isnt being threatened and the pink tail is very mellow. He eats a lot and I see the gold heart watching him eat but he doesnt do anything.

Hopefully he will start within the next couple days. JustRareFish.com assures me the fish did the same thing for him when he got them in and not to worry about it.
