Gold stripe maroon clowns?

My wife and I have been trying to figure out what clownfish to get. I plan to get an RBTA and was thinking of trying to pair some up.

I was talking to Jeff from DR and he suggested getting a small one and a big one. That would allow the best chance to wind up with a pair.

I read some of the other threads on here though about maroon's. I knew they were a bit more aggresive but some of the stories have me almost convinced to avoid maroon's. When I look on websites they rate tank raised maroons the same aggression level as most all clownfish. It is the wild ones that are rated more aggresive. If I get tank raised will I be ok? I never plan to add any other clowns but there is other fish.

Any input from people that have experiance with this?

I just put two maroons in with my ocellaris and I have had more fights with the ocellaris picking on the maroons than the maroons fightin amongst them selves. i bought one that was that was noticably bigger than the other so the maroons get along fine and they love he rbras.

I tried two that were the same size and one killed the other. I waited for a while until I tried again. The one in my tank was 3". I bought a 1" maroon and tried again. It took two attempts at intermixing them. I ended putting egg crate in to divide the tank. The little one could swim through it to escape. After a cople of weeks I removed the egg crate and they tolerate eachother. Hopefully they will eventually pair off.

Good Luck

I have a big 5" female maroon that is very passive. The closest thing that I ever saw to aggression was when a chromis came too close to her anemone, and even then she would only scare it away. She has lived peacefully with a lawnmower blenny who would hand out right under her anemone (within an inch of it), a toadfish, a falco's hawkfish, a chainlink moray eel, 2 diabolus scorpionfish, watchman goby, a cowfish, a bluethroat trigger, and I am sure I left out a couple of other fish. This obviously wasn't all at the same time.

Now on the other hand, my female ocellaris will attack me whenever I stick my hand in the tank. I get bitten even if I am not close to her anemone (try to picture a 225lb guy afraid of a 2 inch clownfish :) ).

The RBTA is an excellent choice for a maroon clownfish. Mine loves any type of BTA but hates my carpet anemone (she's not to fond of the intense sting of it). I am sure that any type of BTA would suit it just fine.

BTW: Rod gets some beautiful Neon Green BTA's for a really awesome price.

The Maroons get big and most get agressive
have you checked out Rods Onyx clowns they are some of the best looking clowns I have ever seen

I have a mated pair in my 75, never been aggressive towards other fish, but the female likes digging holes and spiting sand at me when I'm looking at the tank, she also bites me when I get my hand in the tank close enough to the eggs.

i had a real nice pair, interesting behavior, but not worth the avoc they cause, every time i got a new coral or rearranged anything, they would knock it over, or bury my clams and brain corals, I lost several corals due to their behavior

I have a pair of Maroon's and the female is 6". Whenever you put something in the tank, she will move it. I put in a huge rock of zoo's, the size of a softball, and she would flip it everytime i set it up.....they can move stuff many times their size and they will attack
