gold stripes not eating

Hi guys,
I need some words from the wise, I've recently purchased a pair of gold stripe maroons, they are both about 1.5 inches the female slightly larger than the male, she's a vicious *****, he's a ***** you know how it works.
Anyway 50% of the time they are happy as larry doin the courtship thing he's twitchin she's kissing and flashin against him, the other 50% of the time she's chasing him to the other side of the tank, he seemed fine with this like every good ***** is and when he's not allowed in for some action he clears of to the top of the tank and loiters around up there until he's forgiven.
All has been well for the last week with but suddenly yesterday both of then have started turning up their noses at any kind of food.
Their tank mates seem well happy enough and scoff the extra grub with gusto! I'm a bit stumped, I added a plant pot last weekend as there are no nems for a while because this is a relatively new setup (the old one burst all over the living room, felt like a maroon ***** myself that day, the face on my missus was a picture!!) she stays in the pot 90% of the time he's allowed in for a quicky occassionally.
Anyway came home tonight and he was near the surface looking a bit lathergic, he's displaying his fins well, no visable signs of damage, i thought I'd maybe move him into the sump of my 4 footer to compose himself (they are both in a2ft cube by the way) well as soon as I put a box near the surface the dude turns into shumaker and does one into the live rock so i gave up on that one straight away, lathargic my backside!
This lack of eating for the last 24 hours bothers me though, can anyone shed some light on this as I've never kept maroons before is this some bizarre fasting ritual I don't know of, are they hiding food under the flowpot and stuffing themselves as soon as I leave and then laughing their asses off, maybe it's payback for calling him a *****?
Any input would be gratefully received

many thanks

Stu

P.S all parameters are normal, had a slight temp peak to 28 degrees last night as it's suddenly got very warm over hear on the uk, but temp now back down to 26
