Golden Angel on Hold for Me...

Hello everyone, I have a Golden Angel on hold for me at a LFS. It just came in yesterday and I saw it this morning.

The owner has offered to hold it for me since it just came in. I started researching this fish a little just last week, but I never expected an opportunity to come so soon so I don't feel I've done enough research yet. He has offered to hold it for me until it started eating. He didn't want to put food in the tank yet because it would spike up the ammonia (he got a fairly large shipment of fish, so there are quite a lot of fish in the tanks, until he moves them into other empty tanks).

So I would greatly appreciate any other tips on this beautiful fish.

Thanks.:)

As long as it is eating you'll be in good shape. This angel needs a lot of rock work because it is very shy. That is the bad thing about this angel, it's one of the best looking dwarf angels out there but tends to hide most of the time. But then again not all fish have the same personality.

It's great to hear that the LFS will hold it for you till it starts eating. Golden Angels tend to take their time getting used to eating flake or frozen food.

They are very beautiful fish! My only knock on them is that they are extremely shy. Typically they dart for cover whenever they see you coming.

I've got plenty of rock in my tank, so that shouldn't be a problem. I'm going to call the LFS tomorrow to see how things are progressing. If it is eating, should I pick him up sooner rather than later? Is there any difference between how a male looks compared to a female? If so, how can you tell the difference?

Thanks.

I had two for a little over a year (haremic in nature - got along just fine together in my tank). They are very cryptic. The only time I ever saw them was when they were out nipping at my Acros. I never saw them actually eat prepared foods - must have gotten enough nutrition from what they picked off of the LR.

I had one for 3 months never saw it eat a thing. In fact I hardly saw him. I had him with a blenny and a maroon clown. When I did see him he didn't look skinny so he was eating something. They are very nice fish but not to social. After a few months I sold him back to the LFS. Sad to see him go, but I just needed a more active fish.

I ended up getting a Flame angel. No regrets, excepts he's eating my new Watermelon Chalice. Which is not good. Suddenly he'll be a $250 Flame Angel if he keeps this up.

Bad news. Well I went back to the LFS today to check out the Golden Angel on hold for me. It turned out that another customer sneaked out of the store with him. Not exactly sneaked out, but misled the LFS owner that he had a Coral Beauty (amongst a bunch of other fish). It's a pretty busy store when this store gets shipments, so I believe the owner. Also, the owner knows who it was, so I hope that person gets what's due...

So I'll have to wait until next time when he gets one again. He'll hold it for me once again.

BUT, while I was there, there was a Juvie Blue-Face Angel that was just about to start changing colours. I saw him when I was there yesterday too, but I was more interested in the Golden Angel. So when the owner told me that know one had asked for it to be put on hold, it was just a matter of time...

So it is now hiding in my tank. I know, I'm taking a chance with this guy in my reef, but it was a matter of time that the Angel itch would get me.

I hope it works out, but we'll just have to see...

I love that fish it is so beautiful.. I agree though.. very shy fish which kind of stinks.. but who konws maybe yours will not be so shy.

Hmmm, big difference between a Golden and a Blue-face! I had a Golden who was terrorized by my Sailfin Tang of all things. I don't think he ever did make it out of the one corner of the tank. After a while the tang lost interest but the angel never did eat anything that I could see. Very pretty fish though.
