Golden Angel

Just picked up the Golden Angel on DD. I read a lot about the fish and how they're finicky eaters but I talked to customer care and I was told it was feeding fine. Any last minute advice or experience stories. I know theres at least three of you that got your goldens on DD. I also want to know if any of you have your angels on pellets (nls) and if so how did you entice it to eat.

i had two goldens and both ate everything just fine.mine loved mysis and cyclopeze.the first one i had was a great fish that didnt bother anything.the second one turned out to be a sps nipper so i had to sell him :( they are great fish overall but do stay close to the rockwork alot.mine never ventured far from the structure but was active and always visible.good luck on your golden as they are so nice to look at.

I have had mine (( from DD )) for about 2 months now, and while it has a healthy gut, I still haven't actually seen it eat any prepared foods. I am guessing that it gets some that goes behind the rock-work.

It does pick at the rocks all day long, and even a few corals. Minor nipping at SPS -- haven't noticed any damage, just less PE. It does however LOVE open brains. It hasn't touched my zoas or clams yet.

For the first 6 weeks or so I barely saw it, but now it is out and about most of the time, it seems to actually prefer that I have other angels in that tank.

He is in most of this video,

Ive found if you feed with the lights out, the golden is way more likely to come out and eat.

I fed with the lights on and rarely ever saw my pair come out to eat though they were always full. When I started feeding pre-lights, both come out into the open and feed aggressively.

Good luck, i got my second from DD and it is a great fish. You wont see it a lot at first, but as it settles in you will see it more and more.

I picked up 2 that was posted on DD the same night not that long ago and both were eating pellets & frozen within days. They like to be close to the rock work but they do come out. Lost one within 2 weeks then the other one a week later. Not sure what the cause was but this along with the Colinis I think I will not try again. I've better luck with Venustus but just don't have any luck with Golden and Colinis.

Thanks for all the imput guys. It should be here tuesday morning so I'll try to give an update.
@dflad: Thats weird that they come out and feed like that. I've tried to feed at night before no luck. Also... a PAIR did you get any pics of the two together???
@toddrtrex: Looking great I hope I can get mine on prepared or even NLS that would be awesome. Have you had any luck feeding prime reef... I've heard thats good so I think I'll give that a try. Did you Quarantine your angel or just introduce it to the tank right away? The Fish is going to be housed with an extremely docile female flame angel.(stunted growth at 2 inches and hasn't grown in 2 years) I hope it works out considering one is shy and one is peaceful. Now all I can hope for is that it eats and gets plump.

I have tried some NLS, and it didn't show much interest, some holds true with Prime Reef -- the other angels love Prime Reef, but haven't seen the Golden eat any of it, but it could be eating it within the rock work.

No, I didn't QT it, I put it right in the tank --- same with the Venustus I put in there about 3 weeks after the Golden, that way ate right away.

I should note, that I don't QT, (( excluding wild caught clowns )) -- it has worked well for me, but not something that I usually recommend. However, with a Golden, unless you have a large QT and can place a lot of mature rocks for it to pick at, I would cation about doing it.

I have had my Golden Angel for over 5 years. It will eat anything as long as it comes its way. Wont chase after anything and if you dump all the food in the same spot the rest of the fish will eat it all and it wont get any. What I have done is feed in the morning when the PC come on and at night after the MH turns off. I spread the food all over so it does not take much effort to get food. Eats Brine in the morning and flakes and pellets in the evening. Never had any problem with nipping any corals.

I've had my DD one for a month and it eats spirulina brine if it goes it's way. I need to feed more because I think it may have lost some weight but it does alright. Hasn't eaten pellets yet...

One more question. Do any of your angels eat dried algae or nori? If so what brand and did they take right to it or did you coax 'em in.
