Golden dwarf moray eel

I was talking to Jim about my eel in the 33G. He suggested to post some pics on the forum. I have not yet figured out how to put them in the message. So,I put them in my gallery. He is now one year old and is getting more clean yellow with bluer eyes. He eats frozen sand eel. He is reef safe around 10 inches long and half an inch thick.

Thanks. That is his favorite place. He comes out when I run the actinics at night expecting to be fed.

He's really cool! What else do you have in the tank with him? I know you said he was reef safe, but he looks like he could catch and eat anything he wanted!

How large will it get? Looks as though he has great personality and he doesn't seem camera shy! Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for your comments. He will grow to 10-12". I have a mystery wrasse and couple of clowns and a manderin (eats mysis and cyclopeeze) with him with no problem. But, he is a fish eater and gobies are not safe with him. I suspect in larger tanks you may not see him often as he is shy with more aggressive fish (I had a multi color angel before moving here and he would not come out until I got rid of the angel)

Me too, if they were a little easier to get, almost impossible. I had never even heard of one until he told me about his. google: golden dwarf moray eel and see what you find. They're awesome.

Make that THREE!!!

Yes, they are unfortunately very pricey but you may get them at a lower price if you find one that is not bright yellow. They are very shy if they are housed with more aggressive fish. Marine center and at times liveaquaria diver's den have one if some one is interested. I got mine from an LFS in Madison, WI, but I suspect it came from liveaquaria originally. They may not eat for a week or so like other eels before they open up to the idea of frozen food.

OMG I just priced those things. WOW. They are pricey. I've gotten to the point if they aren't in the LFS tanks for a week I won't get it for fear of problems cropping up later on with fish. I'm a bit more leanant with critters and other stock as they are more fogiving but the fish... I'll let them wait a week at the LFS first.
