I am 90% sure what is causing the color change. To keep nitrates down, every 2 weeks I heavily dose sugar. I dosed yesterday and 5 hours later I could swear that his top fin changed color.

Oh ok, thats very interesting...I have no idea why that would happen though.

SUGAR? REALLY... thats a first for me... Im not trying to be a smart a$$ but, how about a water change instead? Where did this sugar thing come from? ive never read about it before.

my puffer as of yesterday. He is sick with some problem that I can't find an answer.
He has problems breathing. Even though he is doing 100% better than he was last month, he still has some problems. Every since the breathing problem started, his coloration has changed.
above you can see his previous coloration and below is his current coloration

This happened to my Golden Puffer...Soon after he stopped eating and died a few weeks later...I will post a before and after pics soon....

Here are before and after shots; this happened while I was running hypo in my set-up for about a month and a half....He almost turned back to Guinea Fowl colors!

After

He looks super skinny. Maybe some sort of internal parasite? If you think it might be an internal parasite I would try some Prazipro. Good luck I hope he pulls through.

Hello,

I also have a golden puffer. This processus is normal you don't need to worry.

But it should not go back entirely to black according to me.

In the nature, the yellow phasis is just a phasis, so it only has this color during a certain time.
I have observed some of them in the nature, and i noticed that they are surrounded with other Arothron with the black and white spotted color which means that there is a relation between the yellow color and the hierarchy of the fish in the nature (maybe a male, a sexual phasis, or something else).

Regards,

Did yours go back to being golden again. Mine is doing the same thing. Had very few spots when I got him. Then in a month he started to get more and more.
