Goldflake Angel Keepers...

Anyone who has kept a Goldflake in their reefs... what was your experience with nipping? I have mostly SPS and a few brains.

50g tank with:
- Starcki Damsel
- Pair of Perculas
- Radiant Wrasse
- Harlequin Tusk
- Japanese Plesiops

I would get a Juvenile. Apolemichthys grow slow and don't get large. I have personally QT'd and sold dozens of Goldflakes over the years. I am well aware of their adult size. I'm just looking for fellow reefer's opinions regarding comparability with corals.

No your not. Your going to do what you want regardless of opinions. If you sold dozens then you should already know the answer. I smell a troll in the force.

Thats kind of rude. I'm just curious what people's experiences were. My customers that have them said they were all model citizens. I was just expanding my scope and seeing what other people say.

FWIW Here are some from a shipment roughly a year ago. 3 lot special from Quality Marine. Maybe 1/2" long. I think it'd be a long time before it outgrew my tank :spin1:

Your tank is already too small for a tusk fish. Adding another fish that gets large would be a mistake IMO

He's tiny. About the size of your average sixline wrasse. He behaves and moves like a small wrasse would, and really hard to get a good picture of. I've had him for maybe a year now, hasn't grown much. He's Indo so not going to grow up as nice as the Aussies.

So nobody has kept a Goldflake here? I'm really just curious what they did/did not nip in a reef.

As long as its very small fish you can virtually put any fish in a relatively small tank 50 gallon or so.

A lot of people here will tell you not to get it because you have a small tank, not me if its very small fish 1-1.5" juvenile you can keep it until its 3" then sell it to one of your customer. Goldflake IME have great appetite if not feed well it will eat your corals.

Ya those fish are tiny and will be fine for 6 months or so in that tank. I put my 1" tank raised Maze Angel in my Red Sea Max until he gets large enough to go in my 8 foot display.

My experience with one in a reef was pretty positive. But I feed pretty heavy to stop nipping so that 1" to 3" only took a few months

I think I wanna pull the trigger. Now it's just a matter of finding the perfect specimen. I know re-homing the angel won't be an issue, I am master fish trapper . We had a nice Juv. Blueline with inconsistent stripes on the right side, I thought we would be an awesome addition but we sold him last night.

A few weeks ago I was at an LAX importer and they had a half dozen captive-bred clarions, I HAD TO HAVE ONE (even they cost more than I make in a month). Right underneath the angels they had a gem tang the size of a dinner plate.

Mine destroyed any LPS I had. It left my zoes alone. My experience and mine alone is that they need their space. They like having their territory. Any fish swimming into that area is going to get chased or nipped. Small fish with a big ego.

Mine leaves sps, clams, zoas, gorgonians and torch/hammer/frogspawn alone.
Also he leaves my existing acans alone. Any added acans or brains....toast.

Also he is my 2nd favorite fish, behind the black tang.
