Goldflake - Starting from Scratch

So I had a beautiful Goldflake Angel that I grew from a large juvenile to adult over the past 18 months.

A few weeks ago some people came over to look at the tank and asked what my most expensive fish was, and I said my Goldflake angel, and they asked which fish is that. So I am looking and looking and can't find her.

So after they left, I go looking under the tank and there I find my gorgeous goldflake.

I have an entirely open top tank, and lose about a fish a year. Usually it's a wrasse or a fire fish, but this time it was one of my favorites.

So today I was fortunate enough to come across some Juvenile Goldflakes. I was tempted to get a pair, but showed some restraint and just got 1.

In the acclimation bucket it was already nibbling on Reef Nutrition Mysis Feast. I have it in an acclimation box in the tank to see if anyone is going to pay any attention to it. So far the only fish interested in it are my pair of Springeri Pseudochromis.

I was worried one of the other angels might get riled up with the new juvie, I have a flame, multi-color, 2 golden, 2 flame back, 2 multi-bar, Venustus, 3 Bellus and a Red Sea Regal - But so far nobody is paying any attention to the fish in the box.

I was so excited with my purchase, and the girlfriend looks at the little fish and says - It doesn't have blue lips - You got the wrong fish!

I'm hoping I'm able to update this thread for quite some time to come with some growth and maturity pics.

dude, get some egg crate, pronto!
cool, I too got a tiny one a few months back...under an inch and she eats everything, I do not feed ant dry food as it may create buoyancy issues...my lil one is a tough fish, she takes on the interrupta and bandits without a care...just a tough little fish...enjoy her!

here are some pics, from in the bag until a few weeks ago...she has grown nicely...

here is her baby pic...think she was around .75...

Nice to know I am not the only only looking for super tiny fish to keep in a big aquarium. Your's looks like it's grown quite a bit in the photos.

Hopefully we can both keep updating this thread with status updates for many years to come!

hey dave,
yes, she has grown, and there might be a very faint blue starting on her lips but that is it in terms of color change..

Nice Angel. I got the poor man's goldflake...flag Angel. Sucks for your other one. I got a diy mesh screen once I started to lose to many fish to carpet surfing!

IMO they are prettier. People often merge rarity or price with "attractiveness".

true...
love the yellow of the flag but the gold on the gf is beautiful too...
if mine was not .75 when I got, I would have passed...

we had this discussion regarding Narcosis...they are beautiful fish but the price is crazy, understandable, but crazy...when you see a nice flag or lemon peel they can easily cast a huge shadow over a Narcosis...
imo, if one walked into a lfs and saw a narcosis, flag, or lemon peel next to each other and no prices, I bet they think the peel or flag is the most expensive...

Next one I would like to get is a Colini, not a striking fish but a subtle pretty fish to me. I enjoy the simple Multi-Bars.

Beautiful fish guys! A friend of mine picked up one of the juvie goldflakes that DD had in the spring, sadly it didn't make it long as it didn't start eating after being shipped. :(

I'm currently gearing up to get myself a pair of venustus, Xmas Island flames, cherub, and multicolors. Cherub is on my list since it is claimed to be the easiest Centropyge to rear. We'll see. :)

Sadly mine did not adjust well. It was interested in food but not eating enough.

I'm going to wait a few months for them to start coming in a little bigger and try again.

That stinks, I made sure mine was eating at the lfs, both were feeding aggressively and mine was even eating very well after acclimation. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
