Goni on the way out???

My wife and I have a Goni that has been living for a little over a year. On the back side of it we are starting to see some recesion in tissue and the skeleton is showing in a patch. It has two Goniophytes on the front side and we are hoping that it drops them before it checks out...what do yall think. Is this usually a sign that it is on the way out? Or can it still survive?
