Good Action/Hockey Lens?

Need opinions on a good Canon "L" quality lens for taking pics of amateur hockey.
I'm working with a Canon 50D.

How far away are you? The 70-200 f/2.8 might be a good fit if you're not too far away.

I should have said being on the glass is no problem so fairly close. Mostly goalie pics.

Then, that'd be a great lens. It's sharp, fast and has IS built in. If you wanted to save a little $$, the f/4 is just as sharp, just not quite as fast.
