Which is exactly the point... drastically stunted growth isn't a sign of healthy conditions, at least IMO.

Key phrase: "...at least IMO"

To each his own.

BTW. I seriously doubt that those fish were upset that their growth was being stunted. To the contrary. I think they were quite pleased to be treated the way I treated them. Well fed.
Plenty of grazing greens. Optimum water conditions.

Any fish sitting in a LFS tank should be so lucky as to be treated the way those fish were treated.

Josh-

You new list sounds good. So your girlfriend agreed to get rid of the maroon? They are beautiful clowns but can get very nasty. I had a pair that attacked me everytime I put my hand in the tank- actually drew blood. You should be okay with the flame depanding on what corals you keep. Good luck and have fun.

Bruno, your position is misinformed, irresponsible and the minority view. Please do some reading on the needs of your fish before you buy. Buying fish that you know will need to be moved later is just irresponsible.

As to the original post, I can vouch for the fact that Maroons are horrible "community" fish. I curse the day I got mine. I am trying to figure out how to get her out because she is too fast for my net. Thinking of using a No. 22 fly with a crimped barb. She completely rules my other fish.

I moved my maroon clown to her own tank. It completely took over my 65. I would go with the flame angel or a nice wrasse. Actually I'd choose a wrasse because of their reputation of pest removal. My radiant wrasse is definitely the star of the tank.

New list is much better. Will be a very nice looking tank. As long as you keep them well fed I wouldnt worry about the Flame, I have never had any problems. I would keep an eye on the coral band though. They have the same reputation as the Maroon. Mine hunted down my cleaners when they were molting and ate them. Then my peppermints dissappeared. Very cool looking but very aggressive shrimp if you ask me. Mine now lives in my refugium.

ya i actually have a scar on my thumb from a maroon that got me when i was working at a fish store years ago. coral banded starts disrupting my environment and i will just have to take him to my buddies store and drop him in the puffer tank ;)

Watch out Bruno you have alerted the tang police LOL. I myself have a Blue tang a chocolate/mimic tang a foxface 2 clowns 2 chromis 1 PJ cardinal 1 sunk cleaner 1 peppermint 1 green open brain 3 xenia 1 frilly lavender mushroom 1 BTA and a new blue black tuxedo urchin in my 75. We also have a red reef star and a sand sifting star and numerous snails and blue legs.
